Hi everyone!
I'm the proud ferrent of two adorable jils, pharah and Mercy, and thanks to this forum are on a raw diet. My current problem is as follows:
I live in a relatively small apartment, but they have a luxurious cage. When feeding raw, the cage gets messy or attracts unwanted insects. Does anyone have experience with outside feeding times, and what set up did you use? Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I feed mine outside of Ferret Nation cage which is in a spare bedroom . I feed in a saucer on a baby blanket. I do have a little set up in the pantry too. I have a blanket that covers the pantry floor with a potty in corner. Buddy will eat and also sleep in there. I keep that door closed as he can slide under it. He likes the dark.
Some ferrets are bad to stash. He isn't one though. One of my girls would carry food up into the cage--- just to the first level. It wasn't too bad as cage floors are lined with folded baby blankets --- easy to take out. I have loaded up on Goodwill baby blankets. The other girl would place food up against baseboard and keep nudging it with her nose like she could mash it tighter against it.
Close all doors to rooms that you do not want food to be stashed in. Ugh, you ought to have seen under the bed where my 3 girls would stash food. My little stashers have all passed ---bless their hearts.

I only feed in the cage because my ferret does like to stash food under dressers and the fridge and it would be more messy there and hard to get under to get the stashed food attracting more insects. If I don't keep the cage door closed he would escape with the food and hide it in the house. I put a plastic place mat on the top shelf of his cage and put his bowl on there. The place mat is easy to take out and clean after each meal.

You ain’t smelled nothing yet until there is a whole quail inside the fabric underneath your couch evading you and driving you mad. Beware! I never feed outside the cage because then the mess would be somewhere else in the house. I shut the door when he has food in there. Either in eating or out exploring, can’t be trusted with the door open because he WILL stash. In the cage when he was eating frankenprey and whole prey, he ate on a big hard plastic baking sheet with lip to hold in juices, which was very easy to clean. Now he eats soup out of a bowl and he will finish it all in one sitting because it’s so easy to eat, so I just occupy myself for five minutes and then immediately take the bowl out and wash.

Yup, I have to do the same thing and close the cage door if he is out running around and exploring otherwise he will sneak in and take the food and stash it somewhere. lol
