My little Banjo has an open wound on the back of his neck. I think the play fighting between him and Pepe got a bit rough this morning
The vet said to keep an eye on him, and we cleaned the wound with saline
He is eating and playing well, but a little less bouncy than usual
I'll see how he is in the morning and if no better then I'll take him to the vet
Anything else I could try?

you could dab a little polysporin/triple antibiotic on it, but ferrets don't seem to get would infections readily

Do they often get grazes from their rough playing?
It seems like a scratch or graze rather than a bite
It isn't any worse this morning and he's eating, drinking and playing so I guess he's ok and it will heal in its own time
Thanks x

ferrets have very tough skin, so he must have brushed against something sharp, like the point of a nail or staple or like that. You could check your enclosure/cage.

The hutch is fine but I'll check around in the garden where they play.
Good thinking! Xx

I hope it heals well. Just keep checking it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

Thanks Charlie
They're being taken to the vet for their vaccination tomorrow, so she will check it then too.
I think I may have figured out where he scraped it though. The boys have found a hidey spot under the water barrel stand, but they had to dig to gain access. I suspect that whilst digging, Banjo has repeated scraped himself against the plastic without realising
I'll update with what the vet says tomorrow x

Just a quick update. Vet thinks it is a scrape, not a scratch or bite. He has given antiseptic cream for me to apply twice daily for a week, but said it will heal up fine, although it may take a few weeks to do so.
They are a healthy weight, and he was very happy with them.
They in turn seemed to like him and absolutely loved the car journey. Maybe, like me, they love listening to 80s pop music lol
Oh, and I blocked off their hidey hole - not because it bothered me, but because, even though they finally created a nice route to it, I can't risk further injury if they couldn't quite get to where they wanted to get to in the future.
Better to be safe.....
