do you guys have any recommendations for oral (preferably liquid) melatonin to give my adrenal boy? it has taken five months to get the vet to agree on melatonin to help his coat and skin, but they still are reluctant to do the melatonin implant.
i know oral melatonin has to be given 7 to 9 hours after sunrise, and he’s “prescribed” 0.5mg/day, but they didn’t give much more information than that. when i asked if there was a brand they’d recommend, they just said any of them. 🥲 i, however, like a little more structure than that.
so, what has worked for you and your babies?

When I was trying liquid melatonin out, the brand I found at my local pharmacy was Sleep Soundly, and it had 3.5 mg every 2 ml, so I just needed to do the math to give the right amount in a syringe. It is sugared- you’ll be hard pressed to find liquid that isn’t. The smallest dose unsweetened pill I’ve seen is 3 mg, that’d be easy to divide into quarters to get 0.75 mg. 0.5 mg is a baby dose, they probably prescribed that low because they don’t trust it. What I’m saying is you won’t hurt him upping it to .75 for ease of quartering a pill.

He needs either a deslorelin implant, or monthly lupron. Melatonin only treats symptoms, not the disease itself.
