I picked up a ferret on sunday from someone I knew. He was not getting out of the cage and had lost weight. He has hind leg weakness, and I have a vet appt. on SAT. I have given him some carnivore care and he is eating his kibble, peeing and pooping. are there any supplements I can give him ? I suspect he was not getting enough food

It sounds like you are doing what you can atm. As I am sure you know, the hind end weakness could be from a variety of issues. BG being at the top of the list as a rule. I'd not worry about supplements of any kind until he has a fasting glucose test. They are an easy, inexpensive test that is done in house to rule out insulinoma.

BG = blood glucose level, which could be from malnutrition. ferrets need adequate food and exercise out of the cage. The fact that he's eating is a good sign, as I have seen cases of insulinoma that i first noticed due to lack of appetite. I'm hoping he just needs some TLC to get up to speed. What kibble is he eating? The carnivore care is a good supplement until he sees the vet.

Chevy is eating marshalls ferret food atm. His blood work is good. Bg 123 . Vet feels he is a good weight. Has ear mites. Maybe an ulcer so he is getting treated for that too. I have 6 other ferrets . All are being treated for ear mites. I use a mix of kibbles, orijen kitten, wysong ferret, and marshalls because I adopt from the ferret shelter. And they get Stella and chewys every nite.

Sounds lie the vet visit went well. Mites are easily treatable. Did the vet have any comment on the back end weakness or has it gotten better? What signs point to an ulcer? I hope he gets well soon and gets on well with your others.

I made a video of him eating and at the end he was grinding his teeth some. I am giving him an acid reducer twice a day. The vet said to keep him on it for a month. stress of new place lack of exercise -possible depression (my opinion ) he was kept in a single critter nation I have two rooms that the ferrets have access to. one has my bed. I am letting Chevy out at night when I am home and when I am sleeping 2 of my ferrets are dominant. I am caging them when he is out
