Hiya peeps, I very recently lost one of my fuzzies after trying to nurse her back to health with what my vet had prescribed her after giving her 3 injections when I took her to the emergency vets upon noticing she had become very ill in the space of 6 hours. She seems to recover quite well, and then I found her by the food bowl no longer alive on Friday so I was a bit shocked and upset, as was Loki one of her cage mates. The other buddy of hers though, literally just doesn't seem bothered at all, and it's making me wonder if it's possible that she's just not grieving the loss of Laufey....? Like is it possible for a ferret to not give a d*mn, or is it more likely that she's just hiding it too well and just trying to cheer up Loki and keep him in a good mood? She's also become more dooky than normal when I interact with her too

I am so sorry you lost your little one. DIP little ferret I have not noticed any of my ferrets grieving for another. I might have been too much of a newbie to have noticed with my first ferrets. I know they do make bonds. Like, when my male stayed overnight at an emergency clinic, my 2 girls went to town grooming his face when he came home. I have lost two of my 3 girls this year, and my 3rd girl, a blaze, seems not to care ---but she is a people person. Although when younger, she did play a lot with my Annabelle. I do give her extra attn now, and she seems to love it.

I've only had a couple ferrets that missed long time buddies. The were both males, and spent a lot of time looking around the house for them, but otherwise they were fine, eating and drinking ok.

so sorry for your loss. DIP little one. Every ferrets grieves different. Maybe she wasn't as bonded with her as the male is. Since she passed away in the cage with the other ferret maybe she said her good byes whereas the other ferret may have needed more time. I hope she is helping your little male get through the loss. Give them lots of hugs and kisses.
