We currently have an ionizer in our babies' room to help with odors, but it's old, noisy and not very effective. I'm looking into replacing it, but while doing research I found that ones that produce ozone can be bad for our lungs. If they're bad for us, it can't be good for tiny ferret lungs, and a quick Google and forum search here seemed to confirm this. My question is, are regular ionizers okay to use? This Clarifion brand claims not to produce ozone, but I'm skeptical. I'm curious what other people use and what a safe option would be. My fiancé is part of the like .02 percent of people who are allergic to ferrets, so it's kind of a priority for us. We already have an air purifier (one with filters and all that) in the room for that reason, but it doesn't do enough on it's own. Thanks!

www.ferret.org/pdfs/newsletter/93ozone.pdf(1998)I do not know what it is like to be allergic to ferrets or other animals, so all i can do is suggest things like frequent washing of bedding and wipe down cage floors with vinegar and water. I use vinegar and water on my vinyl floors at times too. If weather permitting and you have ceiling fans u can crack open the windows a bit as well. Maybe someone can better help you with the ionizers.

We do clean bedding quite frequently (mostly to keep up with shedding, in-cage stains and stray/stashed food), I haven't tried vinegar yet though. We used to use vinegar to clean the fish tanks at work and I've been meaning to try a vinegar solution for urine and feces stains... does it work well for that, too?

Natures miracle is good for fecal stains on carpet. I am impressed with it. I would keep ferret away from area while spraying. You know pump sprays makes a type of aerosol and it is kind of breath catching. I have even used it to clean acrylic tub and showers. U need a mask and walk away from it if u use it for that. I Let it sit for awhile and spray down with hot water.

I use an air purifier in my room at night. it is basically a HEPA filter, but it has an ionizer setting. The ionizer is supposed to kill germs, and even if it produces a little ozone, it has not harmed any ferrets. I use the ionizer 1-2 nights a week. I am far more allergic to kats than ferrets, and there are up to 4 kats in the house incl 3 9 wk old kittens, and it helps. And I foolishly moved to East Tennessee, which is like # 3 worst place for outdoor environmental allergies. That said, my kat allergies are nowhere near as bad as when I was young. Bunnies, tho, fagedaboudit.
