I normally stop by the local pet store to look at the ferrets. I noticed that none of the stores have any.
I just read that marshalls cannot keep them in stock, apparently there is high demand with more people working from home.
on a good note there does not seem to be any listings on craigslist selling ferrets and the shelters do not have any up for adoption.

A lot of stores are also not ordering them.

That was my first thought. was the store not carrying them with this Covid thing. Then I read the article on Marshalls Ferret quarterly saying they cannot keep up with the demand.

Sadly, I suspect a lot of those ferrets are going to labs, as ferrets can catch the coronavirus that causes covid-19. Marshall Farms supplies ferrets to the lab and pet trade.

The shelters around here do have ferrets that need homes but aren't accepting applications due to COVID. It might be the same in your area? Craigslist has slowed down with the ferret posts here too though. Good luck on your search!

That may be true as well but I know 3 petcos in my area have told me they are not ordering them until after the pandemic is over.

I work for a pet store and its been very hard keeping animals in stock, period! As soon as the shut-downs started we saw a huge increase in demand for pets. Petco probably aren't ordering them because I've spoken to many Petco's and they try to keep people from purchasing them on a whim, which is why they cost so much. Also, sadly, I would say they are likely being used as testers since they [and cats] are susceptible to the same strain of Covid-19 as we are.

Has there been any ferrets in the stores recently? I'm glad the pet stores around here don't have ferrets for sale.

I know for a while one near me was strictly selling them according to their waiting list. I know because that's how I got Kona. I was the first on their waiting list they called me 30 minutes before they opened and another lady got there at the same time and was trying to buy him. They explained to her 5 times about the waiting list and even on the enclosure it had 4 signs saying not for sale already sold. However the one closest to me refuses to order any until the pandemic is over. I have asked them multiple times.

So it all depends on who is running the store and if they choose to get ferrets in to sell or not. Some will sell while others won't.
