DiNozzos nails are LONG (starting to wrap around my finger kind of long) so he has an appointment tuesday to have them clipped. However I'd like to be able to clip them at home in the future. I know a lot of people recommended using salmon oil on their tummy to distract them. DiNozzo has exactly zero interest in salmon oil. I can't even force him to try it. If I tried clipping his nails on Mondays and used an egg yolks on his tummy do you think that would work? Otherwise hes a typical wiggly weaselbutt who won't hold still and wants to play.

If he's very much into eggs it'd be worth a shot I suppose, but they're rather runny so I imagine you'd have to smear it on his belly really fast before it goes every which way. I never had luck with the oil on the belly trick, so I would just put some on a spoon and have my SO hold the ferret and the spoon while I trim. With Rocky though, he sleeps so soundly I can do it myself while he naps (as long as my hands aren't cold, because if they are he'll jerk his feet away and sigh with exasperation).

Try it. you don't need a lot on the belly as it will soak into fur and he'll enjoy licking it out. if needed add a few more drops.

having an extra hand is a godsend here. I use regular human nail clippers and cut them at an angle like /
one person scruffs and the other clips. Takes about a min to clip all the nails.

Egg yolk is worth a try for sure. There are other things you can try too, my girls love duck fat, if you're in Australia there's a product called 'The good oil' which my girls love. In USA I've heard of people using emu oil and a product called 'pickle juice'.
Can confirm an extra pair of hands the first few times would be super helpful! If you can get him while he's deeply asleep or just woken up from a nap he may be less of a wigglebutt.
Good luck!

I usually have someone hold them and hold their scruff while I clip their nails. Although while they can be a little wiggly at times they're usually pretty good about it.

Another thing you can try is a treat your ferret likes in order to "train" them on a salmon oil. Even though it is terrible for them, a lot of ferrets like Ferretone, and it can be a good training treat by starting them on ferretone, and slowly mixing in other treats (like egg yolk or salmon oil) to transition them onto the healthier treat.
I have also seen people wipe some treat on their own faces and trim nails that way (as the ferret leans up and gives you kisses as opposed to licking their tummies raw), but it depends on your preferance.

I scruff mine. they move sometimes but are usually okay. I have tried putting thing on their stomach but the are always less concerned with it than with me trimming their nails

I have some animal grooming experience so my husband and I tag team to try and get the 90+ nails in our house clipped. But when my husband has to do it alone he tends to grab them when they are in their deep ferret coma sleep. He says it's usually pretty easily to trim the nails a bit while they are in that state!
