Is he intact? I'm asking because this sounds exactly like my guy when he came into season for the first time last year, right at the beginning of February: aggressive play if he does play, peeing/pooing wherever he feels like, not really focused on anything "fun" inside, and just about beating the doors down to get outside. I'd take him for walks every night and he would drag me down the bike path at a run for over an hour (and STILL not want to go back home, I'd have to carry him back!).
I got him chemically neutered via Suprelorin at the end of February, and so far his manly bits haven't made their appearance just yet, but he's beginning to act like it's wearing off.
So, it is that time of year. And even if your guy has been castrated, I've heard of instances where something got left behind, so to speak.

Even fixed ferrets will have hormones triggering right now. It's also possible he's become adrenal.
