I want my ferrets head to be x rated. I want to know if there's anything I could do to help my ferret open his mouth. He can only open it so that the k9s are on top of each other. I saw a show on Netflix and they put a gas mask over their head and they pass out and don't need a breathing tube. Do all vets do this? Skip this.. it's just drama : I got him off Kijiji almost a year ago and the vet I brought him to twice said that the dentist wasn't in to look at his jaw. I told my new vet that and he looked so confused. The of vet had no clue what to do about it. He weight about 800g (under 2lbs), had thin hair and smelled bad and she said he was healthy. By grinding his food and wetting it and sitting with him so he could eat has made him gain weight and hair and no longer smell. Just grapes the woman that had him said he has a defect. I don't know if it's from a neglected injury or a birth defect. He's a blaze ferret and I posted on here before and no one could figure it out. My new vet has seen him and looked at him quick because he was only a ride along buddy and didn't have an appointment. I didn't want to ask the vet all these questions because I was there for my other ferrets stone. He mentioned that if Dengar ever needed surgery, he might be screwed because he wouldn't be able to get a tube in his mouth. I would like to have his head x-rayed to see if there is anything we can do. He's still small and struggles to eat. I'm trying to find easy ways but it's not working. I am going to try raw duck soup because it might help him with weight.

A raw chicken egg (egg white and yolk well-mixed) once a week might also help him gain weight, and it's good for him.

It sounds like he is indeed a waardy ferret(blaze indicates that), and having the defect you say he appears to have is not that uncommon. And yes, they do need to get a breathing tube down their throats to keep them breathing once they are unconcious.

I had a horrible scare yesterday that resulted in me uncontrollably crying and then loving my vet more. His k9 broke but he wouldn't let me get a good look at it. From what I saw it was sideways facing inward. I thought he would have needed surgery and it would be the end and after a 2 hour drive to the vet... He took him for 2 mins and pulled it. Lol now he's eating a lot. He's on the same anti biotic that my other ferret was on for a uti so I didn't need to buy more. I wish I could fix his jaw. I would do anything to have him be able to bite his brothers lol. It looks like he will be like this forever. Although, with the rotting tooth out, he seems to be able to open it a little more than before.

I thought I posted to one of your other posts about gas not being so bad. My vet uses it to give des implants. A few years ago, Poppy gave our former vet (we've moved) a bite thru her knuckle while getting an implant. She had never been bit by a ferret before, and Poppy never bit anyone else.
