My asf little ones are dying---don't know why. I thought it might be the bedding. I did have it kind of deep---thinking they may be eating it as it does get in their food, or maybe they are inhaling something from it. It's what they use at Petsmart. Now, I have them on a flannel baby blanket that I change out every two or 3 days. I clean up the pooh every morn. I do give them fruit and veggies---no citrus. Yesterday one died. Then this morning I found another. I do not see them drink from water bottle, so I put a little lid with water in their bin(plus water bottle). About 4or 5 has died so far.
They used to be happy little things playing on their wheels right after weaning.
Note: the mother did die a few days after giving birth to another litter. These pups were separated at that time(will not be letting mothers give birth so soon afterwards as it does seem inhumane). I tried to save those babies by giving kitten replacer milk by way of an artist brush( a you -tube demonstration). That was a disaster--not one lived. and I wore myself out.
Anybody know what might be going on? All the little ones are away from the adults which are eating the same food.

When are you weaning off of the mother? They should stay with the mother until they can eat on their own (about 3-4 weeks). If the mother gets pregnant too soon or disturbed too often, she will neglect to care for the babies, so you have to be careful on prying too much at the little ones and make sure the mom and her pups are separate from everyone else.

Now one of my adult rats---which are housed in a different location is in some trouble as she is laying flat on her tummy and will not run away from me when i touch her. I inspected a little cardboard box that i put in bin for a little house. It was chewed pretty bad--I went online and found they can get the bloat from eating too much cardboard and may prevent them from defecating. So I will be using pvc pipe for housing. Hope she makes it. It is the inside piece on bottom(my doorway was not done with scissors--- that is my doing). Also the walls have been chewed exposing the corrugated piece
