So I am looking to adopt a pair of kits if possible. I'm an experienced ferret owner, and got my first two batches from Path Valley Farms, both of which lived healthy lives. I am very much against Marshall ferrets as I find them de-spirited as well as the fact they are known for shorter lifespans. i would love to share the experience of raising and training kits with my teenage daughter.
That being said, I am having a devil of a time finding any ferrets under 1 year in Arizona at all, and almost all of them are Marshall/Petco buys. I've moved my search to Craigslist in AZ, NM, NV, UT, and El Paso Texas. I am willing to drive 400 miles to pick some babies up. But I just can't find any.
I've tried contacting all the breeders listed on the (mostly outdated) AFA site. The ones in AZ are long gone. There's one listed (Mi Corazon) in NM, but they aren't returning calls. Path Valley is not returning calls to myself or the local pet store on my behalf. National breeders won't ship, because the only airline that will take them is Delta, and they (rightly) won't deliver to AZ due to high temperatures in the summer.
I've contacted the local rescues, but they said they've absorbed and distributed the last of the local breeders' stock a while ago, when the last two major ones here packed up shop.
Anyone have any ideas on where I could get a pair o ferrets in AZ in the next few months?
Thanks! Brian

Hi there, a lot of breeders, the more responsible ones that are quite happy to be known are registered on a site called Feritage. I think you may find looking on there will be useful, there's also a message to email them an enquiry too There used to be a breeder over here in the UK who would ship them to US sometimes but unfortunately they don't now as they actually moved to America themselves and weren't allowed to take their babies with them otherwise I think they'd be breeding them over there. But you should be able to find a breeder through feritage. Hope you have luck with your search for a breeder

I can't access the site at work, but I looked for a couple minutes on my phone and I will do a full search when i get home this evening!

Path Valley is a ferret farm same as Marshals, Real Canadian, Carolina Ferrets.....Mi Corazone comes to mind. She did have kits earlier this year, I would assume that she's got them all placed. She breeds hybrids, so that may not be quite what you're looking for. I would suggest looking up Linda Gurule on facebook (the owner of Mi Corazone). I've not seen any activity on her ferret page but I may have missed it. She's in New Mexico. I just drove through Arizona and New Mexico, last weekend on a rescue. She's the closest. It may be that you have to make arrangements with a northern breeder to ship once the heat restrictions are lifted? It will mean an older kit. Another possibility is travelling up to a breeder and driving to pick up or going to a show and talking with breeders there. Some do bring kits to the show. ciao

I realize that Path Valley is a ferret farm. heck I've literally been to their farm, and smelled the barn of 20,000 ferrets (We stopped by on a road trip, and there was no one at PV there at the time. (Their neighbors were very hillbilly, and did not look kindly to strangers). But the PV ferrets I've owned have lived an average of 7 years, and have all had 8000x more personality than the overly docile ones that are coming out of Marshalls.
I have contacted Mi Corazone, as noted above. Their phone # is out of order, and I have gotten no return emails from Linda Gurule, so I am assuming that they are out of business. I've even been keeping an eye out on the Farmington, NM Craigslist to see if any young Mi Corazone ferrets are listed for rehoming, but they have all been Petco/Marshalls.
The local pet store here deals with Real Canadian. Worst comes to worst, I will need to wait until winter, and can use them.
I am just amazed that there are no active breeders in essentially a 500-mile radius from Phoenix. Like I said, I am willing to travel. My understanding was there was a show either this weekend or last in Las Vegas, that my local pet shop attended, and they checked on my behalf, but again, Marshall was the only ferret vendor at the show.
