Much smaller scab now, the wound is smaller than this but I didn’t know quite where the edges were so I left more on.

Ah, the final loose part of the scab flaked off on its own! This is the actual wound size. By the way, how blind do you think he is with these cataracts? He bumps into me and things that are out of place but he reacts to motion and dark/light changes.

MOe had cataracts. It came on pretty quick, but he was the first ferret we treated for adrenal. He absolutely knew every inch of our trailer from memory and routinely checked it 2-3 times every time he was out of the cage. He definitely knew if something had been moved, but he did really well. He could detect light and dark, and would come to us when called. I think that he really missed his rescue mate Rocky and was looking for him

Mostly bad news this month, first of all his glucose was 59 four hours after meds and food even at the increased dose of pred, so we’re adding diazoxide. That’s gonna cost about $100 per 30 mL vial, is that typical pricing? I’m mail ordering it from Wedgewood pharmacy because it had to be compounded, but once I get the prescription I’m gonna see if there are any local pharmacies who’ll do it for me for less. We’re starting him out on a dose of 0.15 mL twice a day in addition to the 0.45 mL’s of pred. Second he started squinting his eye in pain, just the left one, a few days ago. I tried flushing it out at home with a gentle saline mist meant to go up the nose, but no dice. Did a corneal stain and found no scratches or ulcers, found no foreign objects, vet flushed him out too and he’s still got it slammed shut. Got an antibiotic eye ointment to torture him with, I mean apply, thrice a day for a week. Third, he’s grunting all the time now! Various efforts cause vocalizations. He’s typically silent so this is alarming to us. He had a general exam and aside from an enlarged spleen and a fatty mass on his chest, nothing was found. It might be the eye, it might be arthritis, we don’t know. Fourth, good news here, his little at-home MCT chop off event went very well and the site is healing nicely with no sign of reoccurrence and no scent. Just a little scab left in the center of it now.

well, tumor site looks pretty good. we've used triple antibiotic ointment on eye problems with no issues. It bothers them when first applied, but after a couple minutes they forget about it. I know it is hard to go thru all of this. Our Booboo and Rosa got covered with lesions and tumors. Miss Prissy was bald and incontinent at 10 years old but kept fighting. I'm sure you know that you have to decide when quality of life is no longer maintainable and doesn't justify the expense and effort for you. I'm still paying on Scamp's vet bills 2 yrs after he's gone. Give Winnie hugs every day for me. He seems to have Prissy's spirit.

The tough decisions are coming. Winnipeg is a fighter that's for sure. I hope he's not in pain. I hope next month is much better for him once on the new meds for a bit.

The diazoxide is still in the mail. But, the grunting is way down from before, and he opens his eye more now. Still not fully, but more.

The diazoxide FINALLY came (it took me calling the pharmacy and them admitting they had no idea why it was delayed but promising to next-day airmail it, which they did) so I gave Winnipeg his first dose tonight… he doesn’t like it but doesn’t hate it as much as the prednisolone, so that’s good. It’s very thick and oily though so it’s hard to wash out of the syringe and hard to see what amount you have in there if you accidentally draw too much and have to drip a little back in, it coats the walls. Tried to call the vet to make an appointment for a glucose check next Monday but they closed early today I guess. I left a message. Here’s hoping it controls his glucose better. I tasted it by the way, it’s supposed to be double fish flavoured but I can barely detect anything fishy, and it doesn’t have a scent.
The eye is now almost fully open all the time, I’m continuing the antibiotic ointment for a few more days waiting for it to open further.

Eye is open all the time now, not sure about much of a jump in blood sugar because he hasn’t increased his energy output any. Couldn’t get the vet’s availability and my work hours to line up until the 13th of September, so that’s his next checkup.
