Glad it's not bothering him but tough to keep the blood off stuff. Not like you can put a bandaid on it.

Could you freeze it off using one of those wart removers?

I’m not sure if it would help or just create necrotic tissue that I need to then rub off the top of a still-live tumor and make more of a mess. I don’t think a wart freezer works on a subject that can’t tell you to stop removing skin when you get to the good part.

Does it do anything but regrow hair? I’m just so afraid of it lowering his blood sugar further. it relieves clinical signs like aggression, itching and vulvar swelling in females in the short term while the slow release des implant gets to work. It's basically hormone replacement therapy. I does promote coat regrowth, and we have had 2 ferrets as evidence. Melatonin itself does not treat adrenal disease, but can provide short term relief

He’s not showing any signs except for being bald and having that high-steroid body shape (which I’m sure the pred is contributing to) so I think I’ll skip it.

BG of 65 today, two and a half hours after food and meds. Tumor has grown a little more and shed its scab in a bloody mess a few times. Not much else to report!

BG of 51 today, five and a half hours after food and meds. Increasing the pred dosage to .45 mLs. He’s experiencing some hind end weakness lately, which could be either low blood sugar or muscle wasting from the high pred dosage. MCT has grown a bit too, but hasn’t been bleeding much.

Oh no not good about the hind end weakness. How old is he now?

try some hydrocortisone cream on the MCT to promote healing. It has helped us and another former ferrant that we know. Have you looked into diazoxide for insulinoma?

He smelled like bad bellybuttons last night and I tracked it down to the tumor, took off the scab, and found it had started going necrotic. I pulled it taught and sliced it off with a knife, it was barely attached. I guess that’s why it stopped bleeding, ugh. Now there’s a small dent of a hole in his face. There was some blood, but with pressure and a styptic pencil it stopped fairly quickly. Slathered it in antibiotic neosporin and keep sniffing the site to make sure I got all the bad tissue. I’ll get him oral antibiotics if need be, but for now everything looks good, except for a matted patch of blood in the fur surrounding that I didn’t want to scrub off of him until the scab is really solid where it was cut.
He is six and a half years old, and I’ll ask the vet about adding diazoxide, is it easier on the body?

I'm not really sure. it's more expensive and it's usually saved for when the pred dose gets high and side effects start piling up. Neither drug will stop insulinoma, but can ease symtoms, and prolong quality of life. Polyglycem is the brand name so you can do some research. Not to be morbid, but could you share some pics? PM me if you want. Poor Rosa had a lot of skin lesions at the end. She was never dxed with insulinoma or adrenal and showed no clinical signs other than the lesions.

Right now all you can see is that mat of blood, which is already coming off on its own in chips. I’ll probably give him a bath in a few days to scrub the rest off once I’m sure I’m not gonna be making a vet appointment for the oral antibiotics. The tumor itself is in the trash, but it looked like firm fatty chicken skin, with a light yellow melted center under the scab.

Poor boy, but at least it went necrotic instead of growing. Some triple antibiotic ointment should help prevent infections too. Hopefully it'll try to heal now but if you are taking to a vet maybe he can tidy it up some and put some light stitches if needed.

Update on hind end weakness: it seems to be a combo of low blood sugar and just age or muscle wasting, as he has definitely improved (he can jump up on the couch again!) on the higher dose of pred but they still slip out from under him on smooth floors. Tried to pick some of the blood off dry as it’s crackling around the edges big time but he objected, so I stopped. It looks itchy. I’ll rub it off in the bath after a soak.
