Mm, I’ll try a sock, I have a few with heel holes in them I could spare to lose anyway. He can climb up on the couch still miraculously, even though he nowadays has trouble getting in and out of the cage. I have to make a carpeted ramp, I have carpet scraps. He likes to sleep on my feet up there. He doesn’t really like to be petted, just scratched on the top of the butt for a short time before he tires of it and runs off.

you could use socks to cover a ramp as well or use the ramp from your FN if you have one for the outside of the cage. Tho I must admit the first cage entry ramp I made was carpet stapled to plywood

I’ve thought about getting him a little sweater, but I keep thinking back to when I put a harness on him and he acted like he was being murdered, haha. He was pacing frantically around the house just now for about five minutes, I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I picked him up and put him down a few times during it trying to figure out what happened. He didn’t seem to know where he was. Eventually he decided the couch was the place he wanted to be and I put him up there, he paced up there for another minute before burrowing under the blankets and calming down. Dementia? Oh yes, also, the vet was out when I went last and he just called me yesterday to suggest I knock down the prednisolone further to 0.2 mL’s, which I did last night. Yeah, Charlie runs around trying to get the harness off. I never put it on him enough when he was little for him to get use to it. uncle joe has a good idea and use a sock to make a sweater. I tried to make a harness and it was a major fail. I tried the sock too but I didn't do that very good either. Getting him into it was another issue, they don't stay still like a doll to slip it on them. lol LOL he didn't know where he wanted to go. He didn't know where to get comfortable. Glad to hear that the meds are being decreased again. Lots of cuddles for Winnipeg!

I don’t have a regular cage, I have a retail jewelry display case that I removed the sliding glass doors from the back and made my own mesh doors. It isn’t that high off the ground either, it’s just that he can’t feel the upcoming ground with an extended neck pointed down with whiskers and has forgotten how far he needs to jump and is blind. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/19610/custom-cage

I didn't realize he is blind. A ramp would work. I've had 2 blind fuzzies that did well with ramps into and inside the cage.

Yeah, the cataracts have turned the center of his eyes white at this point. We’re not sure if he can even see shapes, just presence or absence of light. He walks into things if he’s going fast, but usually traverses along walls with his whiskers ok. I’ve been afraid to mop the floor for a while now such that it might lose important scent markers he’s learned along the way.

Of course they are all different, but they're all pretty smart. Moe didn't take any time at all to adjust to his loss of sight. Every time he came out of the cage he walked the perimeter of his home with nary a bump, unless something big was moved. His cataracts came on pretty quick.

That's a great cage set up!! It's pretty low to the ground for him, which is good.

It’s probably six inches or so up, but he doesn’t want to clamber in and out. If I wait long enough he’ll do it, but usually he just plops himself next to it and waits for me to pick him up, in or out. He turns seven around the start of the new year, here are his cataracts and body.

the things we do for our ferrets. I've spent thousands on them over the years.
Idk if it's just me but those pics aren't working...

I see them now. odd that MOe also had cataracts and adrenal. Once we started him on ferratonin implants and 2 lupron 3 month depots he kept his full fine beautiful coat until the end. we couldn't get des at the time.

He’s been a little weird lately, grunting and pacing. Also sometimes “walking high” with an arched back and raised tail like he’s right about to poop, but traversing around like that. I thought he was looking for a place to go so I placed him on the puppy pad, he ran off, I placed him in the litter box, he ran off again. He eventually went to sleep on the couch.

With all that's going on inside him he have been feeling a little discomfort. Our only private bred Jaffa was in about the same shape at that age, minus the cataracts. That was when we couldn't get des in the US because of a problem with a shipment from Australia that got hung up in Hawaii, and the ship had a power failure resulting in the loss of the whole shipment. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/18691/big-boy-jaffaOnset of hair loss IMG_20150112_105219_hdr by unclejoe1158, on Flickr He was once a 4.5 lb handsome brute. portrait by unclejoe1158, on Flickr DSCF2574 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr His last photos are still in photobucket I have to retrieve them while I still can
