BG of 64 today, six hours after food and meds. Vet said it was ok to knock him down to .3 mLs of prednisolone. I’m gonna wait until about a week before his appointment next time in case it’s too much.

that's not too bad. of course, the minimum pred you have to give is best.

That's great! I heard that feeding green tripe can help, as well as feeding parts of animals that produce the hormones he's missing, like adrenal gland or... you know.. the other one. I think the body takes in the hormones, so he doesn't have to work as hard to make them himself.

Don’t know why, but he got results of 91 today, five and a half hours after food and meds. I think I’m finally gonna start oral melatonin to see if he can regrow any fur, I think he can handle it nowadays.

Gave 3.5 mg of melatonin and he was very drowsy and a bit lower in temperature, giving 3 mg tomorrow. Plan on decreasing it half a milligram daily until he’s perkier in response.

take me back to when you started melatonin. it's late here. we gave MOe 5 mg to start for 2 weeks, then 3. We tried to give it around noon-2 pm to support circadian rhythm. It did him very well for clinical signs. He went from fur on his legs only to a full fluffy coat in a month. He also got lupron 90 day depot, which I can't even get anymore. PVO sent us ferretonin implants which I gave monthly and MOe made it past 6 yo with a healthy coat. He did develop cataracts and lost his vision, but he was able to navigate the house without crashing into things, and passed peacefully in his sleep from unknown cause. This pic was ~ 6 mo. after he started adrenal tx, before he got cataracts. The green is just his retinas/eye color. DSCF1503 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

I tried 1.25 mg a year ago or something for about a week before finding out it lowered glucose and stopped, then yesterday was the first time since then. Started with 3.5 yesterday. It knocked him flat on his butt, he was very sluggish into this morning. He ate about 75% of his dinner, slowly (very unusual for him since we started treating his insulinoma) and wouldn’t touch breakfast until after his meds this morning. He was also very distrustful of his precious cream, what we give after meds as a treat and what I mixed into the melatonin to get him to drink it out of a saucer. Litterbox was barely used overnight, don’t know whether he’s constipated or whether I’m going to find a surprise somewhere else. Today I’m unsure about whether to halve the dosage to 1.25 mg or give him a day off to return to normal before trying again, but he certainly can’t handle the dose I initially tried him on.
I have hope that his coat will return and his skin will refat with the melatonin if I stick to it, but it’s not worth the quality of life disruption if it makes him feel so bad. He’s happy naked, haha.

I’m pretty sure I’m cancelling the melatonin idea at this point, he’s still screwed up and not finishing his food. I didn’t dose him with any today because he never recovered from yesterday’s hit of it.

As of this morning he is eating normally again, but still distrustful of the cream I delivered the melatonin in. Switching to salmon oil for a while until he forgets.

That's too bad the melatonin didn't work for you. Just make him a coat to wear!

I’ve thought about getting him a little sweater, but I keep thinking back to when I put a harness on him and he acted like he was being murdered, haha.
He was pacing frantically around the house just now for about five minutes, I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I picked him up and put him down a few times during it trying to figure out what happened. He didn’t seem to know where he was. Eventually he decided the couch was the place he wanted to be and I put him up there, he paced up there for another minute before burrowing under the blankets and calming down. Dementia?
Oh yes, also, the vet was out when I went last and he just called me yesterday to suggest I knock down the prednisolone further to 0.2 mL’s, which I did last night.

I would cut out a sock to try as a sweater before I spent money on one. Probably fit better too. My ferrets can climb up on the couch. has winnie ever done that? I have a leather couch, too. Sometimes, like once a week, and after I do nails, Bobo will cuddle in my lap and wash himself and fall asleep while I pet him. You should try that with Winnie when he wants up. even after he buries himself in the blankie. Good that you can reduce pred. Give him a hug for me
