Well, I found some ASF rats here in town at a pet store that sells them for whole prey. I could not believe it as I have been emailing different whole prey breeders in different states trying to find some. Would rather they have been frozen so to spare me the duties of putting them to sleep. My intention is/ was to breed these and put offspring to sleep by way of co2. However they are so, so sweet. I will probably feel the same way about their little ones. These are 2 little girls and they stay together like they are sisters which they may be. They are in a 20 gal. aquarium with a wheel and water bottle(and a male). Their little houses are ceramic vases. I think one of the little girls has been telling the male ---Back off Jack. If it gets miserable for them I do have another aquarium and wheel. Hubbie is fond of them too---surprised at that

Oh man, that's a tough one! I use to have pet rats long ago so I won't feed those to my ferret! But mice on the other hand I can because I have had those in my house that don't belong. haha I've considered breeding my own feeder mice, but I think if I got a couple of mice, I just might think they are too cute and not be able to put them down. Luckily I do have a store I can buy frozen mice.
Those ratties are cute!!!

They say they are bitey, so I do not handle them---maybe that will help MSAV, a member here, used to raise them for his ferrets and I think Bitbyter did too. They are considered a different protein from mice and from rats. Mainly doing it for my male as he does not do well with chicken---trying to get another bone source. I used to get frozen ones from Fla. but both places quit selling them. What was the length of your rats without tail? I saw a lady at the vet who had 4-5. They were HUGE! She let them crawl all over her. She said she housed them in 2 story Critter Nation.

I'm not sure how long mine were. I had all females so they weren't as big. Yeah, mine would all follow me and sit on my shoulder for shoulder rides!! Yeah, Charlie doesn't seem to like chicken much so I have replaced the chicken with mice too.

Jason raises asf's, but he's been trying to breed ones that can be more easily handled.
