so tonight i was expecting a relaxing night, watch a movie or two, what i got instead was a panic attack induced by wait for it, the ferrets. specifically pebbles. again. she was throwing up, really panicked, and heaving. so i bring out the olive oil, and Vaseline. i try both, but she throws them back up. figures by now she's totally in her litter box dry heaving and whimpering. totally unresponsive. flat ferret. just whimpering there. so in the car we go to the emergency vet. so I'm very close to tears again, when I'm cradling her against my chest and she starts to lick her lips(which i was told at the last vet is a sign of them vomiting) so great. i position her on my lap. so she can do her thing, when she starts grinding her teeth, at this point I'm crying and my mom is like speeding. so we get to the emergency vet, we wait like half an hour. they take her in, examine her and we get x-rays. it doesn't look like a blockage, but her stomach is distended. so we got bismuth and anti-boitics. and if she's still off for tomorrow, or throws up more tonight were supposed to bring her back, or get her checked out by our normal vet. so anyway, i think this has made my mom reconsider pet insurance.

well i had to go to school today, so i didn't get to monitor her while i was there. but i gave her water and food when i came home. she drank, but didn't eat so much. so i think I'm going to make a soup out of her ground lamb. and hope she eats that more.
i saw what looked like a throw up puddle. so I'm hopping we have a vet appointment for her soon.
i'm still super freaked out, because she's still not acting like her self. still all mopey, so i don't want to let her out to play, but anyway, i have a few days off before exams, so i can still keep a close eye on her.

well we took her to our normal vet today, and she still seems a little off. so i have to keep hand feeding her. and continue with the anti-biotics, and the bismuth for a few days. and then just do the amoxicilian(anti-biotics) for two weeks. i guess she just decided she needed to scare me again. so anyway, our normal vet said that her pyloric sphincter area/duodenum, is bigger then normal ferrets. which is the area where the stomach goes into the intestines.

Are they thinking it's just an infection or something more serious?

well before, in march, when we thought she had a blockage, we did exploration surgery, and we discovered it was helicobactor. so i'm thinking its probably more of a bacteria overgrowth again. so that's why the anti biotics.

Ahh I see.
Do you feed extra virgin olive oil? It has antimicrobial properties which should help against the bacteria overgrowth.
