I am a new (second time) ferret mommy. I adopted 2 boys from PetCo about 2 weeks ago. They both went through some stress poopies, with the new house and all. But now, 2 weeks in, Meeko has consistantly had loose, slightly seedy, light brown colored stool. It is rarely formed any more. THey came to us eating Marshalls and I didn't want to chage thier food yet. He is still eating, drinking and playing like a normal ferret, and has no dehydration. Any advice?

Get him off marshals ... it doesn't appear to be agreeing with him?? It's not very good kibbles anyway. If you want to feed kibbles I will let someone else make some suggestions (I"m not real good with the kibbles ) ciao

Do you have any plain canned pumpkin? I'd get some plain meat only chicken baby food. Feed that for a couple days and see if the stools improve. I'd be concerned about dehydration with a kibble fed ferret

I tried pumpkin and will try the baby food tomorrow. I have been worried about dehydration and been keeping a super close eye on eating and drinking, and he is doing both regularly. Should I change his food when he is alreadt having tummy problems?

The baby food is really gentle on his tummy so see if he will eat that. If he still has bad stools on the baby food there could be something else going on. Maybe some kind of bug?
Does he not like pumpkin? I add some water to mine + some extra virgin olive oil and heat it up. They all love it!
What are you plans with his diet? Raw? Better kibble?

How long was your health guarantee from Petco? Is it 10 days where you are? They would have paid your veterinary check on that if it is within the agreement period. I would have him checked out (stool sample in a plastic baggie) Are they kits? (are you still offering them softened kibble) If you choose to change his kibble type later, I am hearing good things about Evo. Do a gradual switch. (I used 8in 1 Ultimate with good results when mine were eating kibble, and got them right off the Marshall's.) It may be the food, lots of corn and molasses in the marshall's stuff:(

He is about a year and a half old. PetCo had no health guarantee. I am planning to get him to a vet, but I was just looking for advice until I can get him there. I want to get them on a better kibble, I have not decided what kind yet.
I will try water and EVOO in the pumpkin. He ate some last night. How much pumpkin should he eat anyway?

When you get a baby food, try to get one that's NOT chicken. It's entirely possible he's simply had this off and on all his life

You may not have got your paperwork from petco but if you still have the reciept you should have got some type of health guarantee from petco, it is a policy.(sometimes the associates forget to have you fill out the animal purchase agreement) the timeframe varies state to state. It may not matter to you if you have had the ferret longer, or if it was a petco adoption- I just felt if there was a chance for you to get a free vet visit I would point it out. Sherry I completely overlooked a possible chicken sensitivity. As far as kibbles go, wysong epigen ferret is the best on the market IMO. Its grain and starch free. however, if he has a chicken sensitivity then I think you would have to look at other foods. Check out freeze dried raw prices - Stella and chewys are my kids favorite. They do amazing on it and never had stool issues
