I've read that ferts can put on weight while on pred. It seems to be whats going on with my Sadie. She was slowly gaining a bit before we started the pred, however in the 2 weeks she's been on it she went from 1.14oz (her heaviest i've seen her) to 2.09lb! Now she is a tiny girl and even at 1.14 it looked like it was all in her belly. Is there anything I should be doing so she doesn't gain too much? Her energy is up, but she still tires easily and I dont want to over wear her out with two much exercise. I'm so happy to see her eating and eating raw that I'm not going to cut back on that. so not sure if i should do anything??

Well, exercise is always good regardless of the situation. It certainly can't hurt to try. But to my understanding, pred belly is not just caused by fat. People have similar side effects sometimes. Their faces become round, their bellies big and hard, their limbs skinny and muscle atrophied. I believe in humans it is called "Cushings" I remember pred does give ferrets more of an appetite though. with my Lemmy his stomach was just so huge from the pred, I had to add diazoxide and slowly taper down on pred. Not all ferrets have side effects from pred. What illness are you giving pred for?

Let her enjoy herself...the pred will help keep her appetite up. Exercise her when she's up to it but don't push it. Exercise doesn't seem to get rid of it. It will help her get through the low times too. Unfortunately, pred belly is a side effect. If you see some of our other furkids who've been on it awhile, they get a lot of weight gain around the abdomen but if you look closely they don't carry a lot around the shoulders. They also get rather squishy looking. We used to tease Pooka that she looked "matronly" ciao

I know I should just be happy she's eating and putting weight on, It just seems like a lot in a short period of time. I worry it will get to o much for her frame. your comment heather made a connection in my head of who she looks like.... when you hold her up her shape is not unlike that of polkaroo (though maybe only Canadians will know who that is LOL)
