One of my ferrets started vomiting last night. She showed no other symptoms of being sick, but we gave her some pooping pumkin just in case. She is pooping fine and acting fine, but she vomited again this morning (mucousy water) after we syringe fed her some water. Her skin is a bit slower when you pinch it so she seems to be a bit dehydrated. She will drink water and I have been giving that, but she wont eat food. I have an appointment at the vet, but the soonest they can get me in is at 3:30. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? How much water should I be giving her? She acts fine and hasn't puked since about 7, but she wont eat. I'm 99% sure its not a blockage, but I'm not sure what else would cause it.

Hi she could be throwing up bubbly phlegm due to simply having a few hairs stuck in her throat I have seen it happen a lot during shedding season or when you have a ferret who likes to groom itself I don't use pumpkin ( I am in the uk ) normally I sick a little vaseline or petroleum jelly on the roof of the mouth it dissolves and slides down the throat she may be refusing to eat simply because she is afraid the vomiting may start again but you are doing the right thing by having a vet check her over Bev

This most definitely requires a vet's care. Sub q fluids if you have them. The bubbly vomit may be an empty stomach. What does her stools look like? ciao

Just wanted to update- went to vet, and of course, it was a blockage 😭. She just got out of surgery, doing fine. Vet says it seems like a white remote button, which not only would they not have access to, we dont have. Her only symptom was vomiting and lack of appetite. She was pooping a lot of big healthy poops (surprising as it was quite large). Just a reminder to always get it checked out, glad I did. All I can do is hope she has a speedy recovery ❤

I just saw this. I'm sorry you both had to go thru this. I hope you find what she chewed. I've taken a few remotes apart and many times the black keys are white on the back side. My first ferret Bella stashed 5 remotes inside a couch, alont with a lot of other stuff,

Hugs to the wee one. Just read your update in another post. It's one of the issues with blockages which is why we often push a barium xray. Normal xrays would not have been able to find this. I hope she recovers and I'm sure she's got to feel a whole lot better than she did. Having a floating blockage had to have been very painful and probably didn't allow her to process her food in the best manner ciao

My first ferret Bella stashed 5 remotes inside a couch, alont with a lot of other stuff, Both us and the rescue checked everything, the vet said it likely that it has been in her stomach from her previous home (about 2 months ago). It just caused her problems now because it started moving into her intestinal tract 😥... The vet said they had a ferret whi had a barbie shoe in his stomach for 5 years before it caused a problem... scary

yeah scary. I have read about ferrets with blockages that were...intermittent? meaning they moved around, came and went. My duma$$ Scamp has eaten and passed at least 4 orange foam earplugs. He's a big dude, tho.
