I know this is a bad pic and I enlarged it a lot---- I can't feel any implant. I really don't know how big they are---I was figuring something like a short grain of rice. Phoebe's injection site bled and enlarged with a good size knot then it healed but I can't feel anything there. My vet is out of the country. She will not be back until the Dec 5th and then will not be in office until the following week.So it will be a while before I can see her. Do you guys, who have implanted--- see anything on your ferret?

They can migrate. I've only had one pop out and that was right then and there not after it had healed over. There are times that I've wondered where the silly thing has gone, but the vet usually finds them (making me feel rather silly but she's got amazing hands). YOu can xray they show up like a grain of rice. They do dissolve but usually not for a year or so ciao

Definitely going to get her to try and find it.

as tough as their hide is to get the implant in, once healed I would think it would be nearly impossible to come out. before it heals that is a different story. It is most probably as heather said , it migrated.
on a couple of our ferrets I can feel 2 or 3 of their past implants, none of them are anywhere near the injection site.

The furthest migration of an implant was along the shoulder near the chest.....we never stuck one there. It didn't seem to bother her but who knows why it got there ciao

I had a melatonin implant come out, but it was my fault as I didn't inject needle deep enough. Beedee (Abita) had a des implant last year and unless I'm messed up, hers feels like it's a half inch long. It's right between the scapulae.

I have an appointment with my vet for Wednesday. As I have mentioned, I am going to see if she can find the des implant that she put in her. Also, I thought I would show these pics of my girl who seems to have gotten worse in the last few days. I am also going to get a skin scraping. You can see the tiny sores on her. Is this common with adrenal disease? it is very interesting that my waardie keeps smelling her back.

My vet puts a stitch in - she does many implants, especially on parrots. I've seen other vets use surgical glue. Must be a reason for them to do so?

My vet in Florida didn't close the wound, but my vet here was kinda freaked when she saw the implant the first time and now does gas and dermabond. When I said I had a melatonin implant come out, I Meant it came out of Moe, not me, lol. I like my vet because she has a couple techs that have/had ferrets and she has researched them and is willing to listen to me and do further research so she can take good care of our fuzzers. Whenever I bring one in the techs all want a chance to love on them.

Went to the vet yesterday to see if Dr. Powers could find the DES implant. She could feel it but I couldn't when I tried. She said they can pop out although none have with her so far. She showed me a little blue place on the skin where hair is growing back. Also the brown spotting on Phoebe's back is clogged skin---blackheads. She said I could wash her with collodial oatmeal soap or a benzoyl-peroxide shampoo. Something like this. www.chewy.com/davis-benzoyl-peroxide-dog-cat/dp/152853?utm_source=shopzilla&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=Davis&utm_campaign=hgShe did tell me that the ferret's skin will get worse before better and people have gotten mad at her thinking that the DES wasn't working.

Avery's latest one is about 1.5" closer to his head than the injection site (feels like a grain of rice under the skin). Not a DES, but our dog's tracking chip actually migrated to her chest next to her front leg. I have no idea how that happened.

We always use surgical glue. I had a new vet for Dodger and she decided to glue his closed too. It's more a precautionary thing than anything. As mentioned, I've only had one pop out and we weren't entirely sure the plunger wasn't defective but rather than risk, we glue ciao
