For the past couple days I’ve been searching the city for a butcher or ethnic shop that carries rabbit or quail meat. After calling over 20 shops someone finally told me that’s it’s illegal to carry rabbit or quail in this province because it’s considered wild game. However I would still like to get some for the health of my fluffies. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I’m not sure if there are any good online sources that ship to Canada?
I can however get a hold of frozen rabbits at a couple of reptile shops in my area. Would I be able to replace a bone in meal once a week with a frozen thawed rabbit? I have 6 ferrets to feed, would they be able to share a rabbit or would there need to be more than one available?
As an absolute last resort I could get someone to cut up a few frozen thawed rabbits up for me. Are there can parts they shouldn’t eat? Should the fur be left on? Does anyone have any experience with cutting up whole animals?
Thanks!

So your Asian stores do not carry quail? Publix grocery store has frozen rabbit in USA. Do you have a Publix? It is 1/2 rabbit. Do you have a farmer's market in area? I can get rabbit there too.If you want, you can message Crazylady. I think she feeds whole rabbit to her ferrets. Mine are already cleaned as they come from store and farmer's mrkt. I do get the rabbit liver in the package from store though. I also buy frozen rats and mice online. Shipping is a little pricey. I always remove intestines and stomachs from things (you do not have to do that with mice). However, animal organs are good for ferret (pancreas, brain, kidney, liver, uterus, testicles). Of course the heart is very good as it has taurine in it. This is good for ferrets eyesight, heart, and nervous system. I do cut up animals--- squirrel, rats, guinea pig and chicken(cornish hen) There is a video on forum how to cut up a guinea pig. You can get these from Hare Today(frozen). Some people like pics with instructions(you tube). Although I can tell you how I do it, it is basically the same once you learn to cut up one type of animal. Sometimes my neighbor gives me squirrel. Freeze all wild caught 2 weeks to kill parasites. I would feed chicks once a week---it is considered a snack. However it can also be considered an egg by Heather--if I remember correctly. They have a yolk sac. So that means give in place of the 1 egg a week. Just before a chick hatches from an egg, it 'absorbs' the yolk sac through the navel. www.google.com/search?q=chicks+have+a+yolk+sac+in+them&oq=chicks+have+a+yolk+sac&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0l3.7619j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Happy momma found some rabbit and quail at superstore (I guess someone did tell me a tale!) unfortunately it isn’t available all the time and it is very expensive, $30 for 1kg of rabbit and $15 for 6 little pieces of quail. Is this the general price for these kinds of meat? I’m thinking I’m just going to look for whole rabbits, it’s probably a heck of a lot cheaper! But anything for my babies

That's similar to how much "jumbo quail" cost at my local Asian market.

Check out local reptile rescues and find out where they get whole prey.
