Today I bought Charlie a pinky mouse. I put it into his cage in a bowl. Later I came back to check on him and see what he had eaten. He ate half the pinky so far. He ate the head part and the front legs! So he seems to like it I guess! Obviously since it's very small it didn't replace a meal but more like a treat and to see if he would even eat it. Thought I would start off small.

Update! Charlie ate the whole mouse!!! It was gone this morning!!! This pinky was the size of a hopper and an adult mouse. The only difference was the hopper and adult mouse had fur whereas the pinky had a tiny bit of fur. I don't think this girl at the pet store knew what she was doing. lol The mice in my house are bigger then the mouse I bought.
So how would I incorporate whole prey into his diet. I will primarily feed him raw though. Even if once a week I give him whole prey. I still have the baby bunny in my freezer that I will be giving him. I'll have to partially thaw it and do as you ladies suggested and take out the guts. I'll have to chop it in half because it's quite a bit for one feeding.

I feed adult mice once a week when I can get them Ok, cool! I can do that too. I know I can get mice. Would an adult mouse still be considered a treat or is it now a meal. The adult mouse I saw at the pet store was really small. The mice in my house are bigger. Lol

Adult animals are considered actual food. It's just the baby animals that are considered snacks/treats, because they aren't fully developed nutritionally yet. Since most mice are still small, even as adults, it may be that he will eat vs just one. Weighing them before offering and going by the average amount your ferret eats should let you know how many to offer him.

My females generally eat two medium sized, or one large mouse each. Males 3 and 2 respectively.

I gave Charlie a pinkie today for a snack. Looks like he enjoyed it because there is no remnants of it whatsoever! I found a new place to get whole prey. They even sell live whole prey. Not sure if I'll go there yet with Charlie. Next time I'll get a bigger mouse and graduate him from pinkies. I decided not to feed Charlie the 2 mice I caught in my house. Not worth the risk! I know my neighbour on one side doesn't use rat poison but I'm not sure on the other side.

I gutted my first rabbit! My neighbour's cat caught a little rabbit and killed it. So she took it and put it in her freezer for me. She gave it to me to give to my ferret. So I partly thawed it like you ladies suggested and it was easy to do! Just came right out! I cut it up into 5 pieces. I just gave him a hind leg. It still has the fir on. Do they eat that too? I put it in his bowl. He got out of his hammock to check it out. He sniffed it for a bit then picked it up and put it in his tube where he likes to eat his food! It'll be interesting to see what he eats!

I checked out what Charlie ate of the rabbit I gave him. He ate most of the hind leg. There is still a bit left so I'm leaving it in with him because there's still meat on it. He even ate the fur! I split the rabbit into 5 pieces for meals. Because it's a very small rabbit would this be considered a meal or a snack?

Size with rabbits doesn't mean a lot as they come in all sizes, from some who are adult at 1lb, and others who are 10-12lbs as an adult

I'm very proud of Charlie! He has been doing great eating his whole prey! He has been eating his dressed rabbit. Does dressed mean with fur still? Lol.
