So it's been nearly two weeks since I bought Chico home. He was a working ferret and came from a very suss home, The largest of three ferrets that were for sale from this owner. After talking to them about what he was been feed if he would be happy to living on his own with no other ferrets ("Really well! they sleep all day, just feed him! ) I was told if I didn't buy him then someone else would be by in a hour to take them all, so I swooped him up and took him home knowing he dissevered to be treated well.
We are now litter trained! In the house and in the cage!
I've already switched his diet from Whiskers cat food, milk and breed! GRR!! to Evo cat dry food. He took to it straight away! So I decided to toss a few more things at him to see what I could get away with. I pick up some mince last week and put it in another bowl beside his kibble. He took to the mince first ! Very proud ferret mum here! I also tried a chicken wing but that turned into play time. lol (I think I need some hocks to hock it to the side of the cage so he doesn't try to stash it in my living room). I gave him egg yoke, he LOVED IT! Last night I took another step up by adding chicken mince, egg yoke and liver. The little freak picked out the liver and left the rest. Given I did have kibble on offer all day.
Now I know he will eat the mince I took the kibble out of his cage and only offer the mince. Would it be fine to leave him without food (given I'll leave mince in his cage. No kibble) until tonight and try some small chunks of raw chicken?
Also how often should eggs be given? how many is too many?
Is it okay for now to stick to the one protein source? Chicken seems to be working well for us at the moment.
