I have read several things from this site and just recently joined. I have 2 ferrets one is a sable ferret she is a little over weight, thoug still very active and I have one that is albino, and she is a true albino with the red eyes. They are almost 3 years old. However, recently my sable one has been having an issue with going to the bathroom number 2. Took her to the emergency vet on Monday evening, while there she passed a small stool and seemed to feel a little better. The vet there wanted to give her an enema with mineral oil. After looking at this site I saw it says it strips their intestines of needed bacteria so I did not do it. The next day I took her to an exotic animal vet, they gave her an injection for her spasms in her lower half and some antibiotics and pro biotics this is day 2 and she seems to start feeling better. Vet says she has e.c.e. Poor girl we are keeping a close eye on her. My other ferret is mothering her too. She is going to the vet next week just for a checkup.

Hi and welcome. I would be asking your exotics vet to do a barium xray tbh. That will show any potential blockage that may need surgery.

Hi and welcome. Any updates? ECE presents with loose, bright green stools. Really. Have you tried the blockage protocol with pumpkin and vaseline from this site?

Hi and welcome to the forum, and so glad that you have joined us I hope your little one gets better real soon. Do let us know what your exotic vet says and tell us if you get the barium x-ray done.
Ferret proofing Some of the things we warn people about with ferrets is rubber. This is how bad they can be----trying to chew the little rubber strip on the dustpan. Chewing erasers on pencils. I have thrown away some inkpens with soft grips after finding out they liked them. One of my ferrets even liked the latex backing on throw rugs--- I now have woven backed rugs. Another chewed a rubber protector on an i-phone. I had to do the blockage protocol on her. Do not get any toys with beaded styrofoam as the stuffing or other type of beads in it. I read a sad story about a ferret who finally tore in to a stuffed animal. Watch out for cloth toys that have beaded eyes and noses. Those buttons are meant to come off in the mind of a ferret. My husband uses earphones when he watches television sometimes. He is trained to put them on the table when he is finished;) You may know all these things---but in case not, just a little heads up. I am sure I will be adding to my list as ferrets always come up with something new to chew.

As an in update she has been on antibiotics and probiotics for 5 days now and she is doing much better thank you. Her stool returned to normal, so there appears to be no blockage and yes she did have e.c.e. Had most of the signs.

Hugs! They are such little things to have to fight illness. I hope you have more success at the vet.

So the E.C.E. Is almost all the way gone and now the poor thing has a urinary tract issue. So they changed her antibiotic, she starts it tonight. My other ferret Snow has shown no sign of either of these diseases, so I am hoping it stays that way.

Me too. Happy thoughts! Giving a ferret antibiotics is no fun.
