So last night, I had a bit of a scare with Memphis
I was settling in for bed around 11p, when Memphis started to make a hacking/coughing noise. He does this once in a while, so it isn't completely out of the norm for him. But when he does this, I give him some pumpkin, and it goes away within a the hour.
He did poop; it was a bit loose and mucousy, but otherwise the color was fine... What threw me off was the fact that he went right next to their water bowl, a shelf away from the litter box. This is very unusual for him; He always goes next to the liter box (95%) or in it (5%). Then he started to make a strange whimpering-like noise, and ran to the litter box. Instead of going in it, he moved it out of the way and was laying behind it, whimpering and hacking.
I fed him tons of vaseline, pumpkin and olive oil. The olive oil and the Vaseline seemed to really help. He stopped hacking and whimpering, and settled down to sleep in his bed with MoJo.
I waited another 2 hours but he was sleeping peacefully. I finally went back to sleep and set an alarm for an hour. Still okay, but TONS of orange, nice formed poops in the litter box. (I only allowed MoJo to have some of the pumpkin, so I would be able to tell the difference)
Sorry this is so long--I just want some background. Do
you think he could have had a blockage?? The only
thing that worried me was the hacking and the to and from the litter box. Those were the only off signs. He wasn't particularly frantic, wasn't pawing at his mouth.
Could it have been something else? He's acting perfectly normal now...
