I was just wondering if anyone had a successful whole prey menu? If so, I would like to see a menu plan that is strictly whole prey. Age of prey? Amount per ferret? Weight of prey? etc.
Thanks so much!

I do whole prey but I add some pork, and turkey for muscle meals. I also do duck or chicken hearts. I find chicken hearts at farmers market. I can get duck hearts from here www.farmfreshduck.com/content/4-about-us u might find a cheaper place.U can get chicken hearts in Tysons heart and gizzard pack. Make sure u see a heart or two in pkg. If not---probably none in it. If u see a heart or so, there will be others stashed in there---usually. I do a cornish hen on occasion but it has no organs from Walmart. My whole prey includes rats and mice from Perfect Prey LARGE rat (180-279g) and ADULT mice (18-32). They quit selling ASF rats, which if u can find would be a different protein even though it is called a rat. I skin and gut guinea Pig from Hare Today Gone Tomorrow. 1-1.5 lb size---smaller ones bones are too limber (u can go bigger). I also get the large quail ( u can get Jumbo). I give my ferrets two mice a piece. My blaze who is smaller will not eat two but I put it out for her to munch on later----She usually hides it in the house somewhere:/ I will also feed them a supper of something different. They like eating late at night. Sometimes there is waste. I skin and remove intestines and stomach of everything. It was something I did to try to entice them to eat it, and I have never quit doing it.I have on occasion given my ferrets a whole mouse---but they like to stash them. Sometimes they will eat head off---so i will just keep doing it this way for the time being. I am trained;) Ferrets do get tired of eating the same protein, if you feed it too close together and often. If you feed hearts for one meal or muscle or organ, the next meal should include bone because these type of meals cause lose stools.

Most don't do strictly whole prey due to cost factor. But as long as you have a minimum of 3 proteins(preferably more) you are good. So a mix of mice, rats, guinea pigs, whole quail, rabbit, etc. Make at least 90% of them adults. The only ones you will likely find fur left behind on are guinea pigs and rabbit. However you will need to remove the majority of feathers from birds. Also gut anything larger than a mouse.

I'm sure that this has been answered a trillion times, but I'm having a hard time finding a list of usable proteins. I realize cornish hens and chicken are counted as the "same" type of protein, but what about ducks? Do different duck "types" matter (ie: ringneck V. Coots). I think the types of proteins I'd like to use are chicken, turkey, beef, duck, possibly deer, frog, and/or fish? Are these enough proteins?

Diet board-> raw feeding-> basic frankenprey menu You're awesome! I wrote down the entire menu and set up a weekly diary for the little guy. So far, he loves it!

Hi Sherry, So I was wondering, I have Rocket on a raw diet Pork, Hen, goat, gizzard , chicken feet, liver and chicken heart. And chicken thigh with bone. Can I also give a mouse everyday as well? My little guy eats 5 half inch chuncks of mm and or bone or both 5 times a day . He has a good appetite 👍
So I give Rocket for example At 6 am cause he’s awake then, 5 small pieces of pork or any raw MM for bf. Then at around 10 am I’ll give him the size of a half dollar coin hen bone in. I’m still not sure what 1 ounce of meat looks like yet , but read it’s about 5 half inch cubes = one ounce. Then around 2pm he gets more pork , then at around 6pm dinner, a chicken foot and some gizzards Then at around 9 what ever is left over from the whole days meals If nothing is left over I’ll offer him a chicken foot
Am I doing this right?
Ps can Rocket live on mice as his only diet ? Along with water of course

Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/23680/prey-menu#ixzz5He5osDMLI know you asked Sherry this question---but thought I would answer as well. I would not feed mice only. At least 3 different proteins. U can add rat and quail. I pluck quail feathers off (Hare Today). I even throw the wings away because they are so hard to pluck and hardly any meat on them You can always add hearts and egg too. Ferrets do get tired of eating the same protein. You want different proteins to give ur ferret a variety of nutrients.

How old is your little one? If under 4 or 5 months you will have to drastically increase what he is eating as babies are black holes for food. Here is a basic menu plan along with a variety of different proteins. And they need a minimum of 3 proteins or he WILL develop nutritional deficiencies. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/146/basic-frankenprey-menu
