what day is it.... lets see... I have the day off... I have a million things to do ... it's the day before my 3 days of working 13hr days.... and I have a sick ferret... oh yes it must be friday! I'm surprised it's not the friday of a long weekend! It's Neka again. He's on a strict puree diet (from surgery)and has been doing GREAT. Energy, appetite stools everything good. I'm sure his only complaint was the food, he'd go a little nuts when he could smell what the others were eating and he couldn't get to it. Last night he gave me that 'i dont feel good' look i've come to know so well with him, today he's got runny stools and not eating and vomited once I'm thinking he got a piece of jerky that the others left for him. I ONLY feed the other three in a cage he can't get into, but yesterday I found a couple pieces ferret made jerky behind the cage they must of knocked out of the cage, wondering if he found them before me. I'm frustrated as we've been trying sooo hard to keep the food away from him, out of his reach. I dont know what else to do short of feeding them in room he has no access to, which leaves only my bedroom, and that would mean the others couldn't have food in their cages at night or when we are at work, and i can't do that. I've card boarded up the back of the cage they eat in so nothing will fall out. I'm syringing Neka every couple hrs with pumpkin (to push possible food blockage through) and water and food. He's not dehydrated, was drinking on his own this morning. He's sleepy and not hungry. If you've been following our saga you'll know this is related to his surgery and recovery issues. We are going on two month since the surgery and it's been a rough/worrisome recovery. I"m just tired, frustrated and worried.

Could it be he's picked up a virus? His immune system will be down, he could easily come down with something that the others won't get or barely noticed. His healing candle is lit again. Keep him hydrated, try and get him to take food (I know all about this one....it's difficult). Is there anything that you might be able to get him to eat, that he really likes? I can't remember if Michelle has Sat morning hours or not?? ciao

anything is possible Heather. Though no one has been sick )human or fuzz)and the fuzzies have not been out in a while as it's been too hot. The stools are stinky but he's still getting A/D crap so no difference there. His diet is all pureed and he has chicken/beef/veal and heart pureed, though none of it he's overly thrilled with. He was always a big fan of chewing bones beef etc, but he's been unhappy with the pureed stuff... not that i blame him. He's only vomited once, so far he's keeping the other syringed food down, he just SO hate being forced to do anything lol. I'm thinking of calling michelle, but I hate bugging her, she's spent many of hrs on the phone with me for this guy.

She's really good about it and very understanding. I've been there. I was doing the phone thing with her on Wed, so you might as well make it interesting and slightly different today ;D I'm going in on Wed with Yuri to have his BG tested. You know, being that he's been sick and is still recovering, it could be the heat. All my guys were flaked yesterday. Even though it was cooler, the humidity really affects them. My sickies react with lethargy and poor appetites ciao

Do any of yours whimper? He learned this after surgery, when we had to give him meds, he' whimper at us. A bit pathetic... then when he started playing again, he did it a few times when Zeke would bite him. He's doing he again when I syringe him. I'm not sure if it's a pain thing or a learned thing, it sort of replaced his hissing at us. I'm doubtful it's the heat.... as I dont allow it to go above 21, i'm very ferret like when it comes to heat Best of luck with Yuri. I'll let you know if i get a hold of Michelle.

Boris and Vincent both do the whimper thing if they really don't want something, so it's quite likely a learned response. Good luck with this guy!

Captain Jack and Thor both do the whole whimpering thing...neither have had anything horrible happen to them at any time. Thor recently had a minor surgery but he did that long before then. Captain Jack has always done this. ciao

hmmm are any of them deafies? Neka is.
He's eating again, though still have to hold him to get him to eat, haven't seen him go the dish on his own yet. Stools are formed again and better colouring. Gave him a good size dose of acidophilus last night in case it was intestinal, and that seemed to make an immediate difference. the next poop was better.

I second the "Poor Neka" and raise it with a "Poor 3Kaw"! If you don't already have grey hair you will! I swear Neka is putting you through the wringer! I pray that he recovers from his "ickies" quickly and that you get some quiet non-sick fuzz time to relax and do something you enjoy!

OH yes he most certainly is the most expensive ferret ever! Told the vet to dip him in gold it couldn't cost any more! lol You know just before this I was going to post about the 5 days of total ferret bliss, where everyone was playing and running, eating, having fun! I enjoyed it so very much! The energy level with that one extra (luna) has changed the dynamics. Sadie as well has been super playful this week, she's on a pred high. I guess I just wasn't fast enough LOL I'm starting to feel i have a handle on these 'episodes' he keeps having, this is the 3rd since the surgery. I know what to do, and watch carefully that it gets better quickly, and have an amazing vet. My concerns now are....1) mistaking something more serious (not right wording but something else unexpected ) for these episodes and missing the more serious issue.. ...2 ) I'm so afraid to move him off puree food, to make the next step towards 'real' food, I'm worried he'll be on this for ever. Believe me he wont be thrilled with that.

On monday she gave the ok to move him up from puree to.... like a ground meat. I just haven't done it. She expected it to take several months before he'd hopefully be able to eat solid chunks again, then bone though she didn't mention bone LOL not surprising.
