Hi everyone I'm a bit concerned that my Weasel may have ear mites. His ears appear to be fairly clean, no visible wax or dark brown gunk, but the amount of itchiness he experiences around his ears seems to have increased. I know ferrets are naturally itchy critters, but it seems like he's spending a lot more time itching his ears than usual. He's giving himself little scabies behind his ears . His coat is thick and glossy, with no visible hair loss, and the increased itchiness seems to be limited to his head/ears. I talked to the vet, who also suspects ear mites. Otherwise he's his typical playful, happy self. I've made a vet appointment for next week, but in the mean time is there anything I can do to alleviate his symptoms? Thanks for all your help =]

Try some olive oil in his ears. Put a couple of drops in either ear, try to stop him from shaking his head, and then clean them a minute or so later. Put in another couple of drops, and leave it in overnight, then clean the next morning. You might have to use a bit more oil to do that.
