I wanted to share a few pictures of my ferret cage set up for Sawyer and eventually Finn. It's not the prettiest thing to look at, but it's almost all DIY and I'm proud of it. It's about 3 1/2 feet high and 2 1/2 feet wide. The cage itself was given to me by a friend who was using it laid on its side for her rabbit (until I adopted him lol). The base is an old storage container lid zip tied to the cage bottom. The two levels are made from garden fencing and outdoor carpeting that I cut to size and zip tied into place. Unfortunately the middle level is a little droopy, but it's still totally functional. The ramps are cat scratching boards that I--you guessed it--zip tied into place. They were originally cheaper and made out of cardboard. I had to upgrade them after Sawyer (obviously) tore them apart. The bottom and top level each have litter boxers that I carabinered and zip tied in because Sawyer was constantly overturning them. I originally only had a litter box on the bottom level, but Sawyer was too lazy to walk ALL THE WAY down there from the third level, so the second box was quickly added. He's got old towels to snuggle into in addition to the hammocks, bed, and crinkle tunnel. And there you have it! My little DIY ferret condo. I'd love to hear what you guys think of it. One day it'd be nice to get a real Ferret Nation cage, but I think this one does the trick for now.
You can just barely see Sawyer taking a mid-afternoon siesta in his brand new hammock.
