Hi! Before I get my ferret I want to decide what will I feed him/her, whole prey or raw meat. The only thing I don't see is if I were to feed raw, what would be the place of fur and feathers in the meal? Should I just ignore it or should I add some of it?

Fur and feathers play the role of fiber in a ferrets diet. It is obviously not fiber in the same manner that we think of it but it plays the same role and helps to add bulk and clean out the GI tract. There is no dietary replacement for them which is why a whole prey diet is the best for them. Bones will take up some of the slack of missing fur and feathers by adding firmness to stool but not bulk.

Yep, as FireAngle said there is really no way to add feathers or fur back into the Frankenprey diet without running the risk of causing constipation or even a blockage. Not to mention, where you would even source/buy it? This is why in general, a ferret on a Frankenprey diet will have "looser" or less formed poops than kibble or whole prey fed ferrets.

Ok, that has totally made my mind. I'm going to whole prey diet FOR SURE! Thank you so much!
