Bump. I will let somebody else answer that for you, maybe Linda or a mentor. The organic is certainly nice--- I wonder if they have ground bone in it, so they can get their calcium? If they have a number, I would give a call or email them about that.

The issue is they use eggshell powder instead of ground raw bone. It makes a great PART of a raw diet, but they miss out on the micronutrients actual bone and marrow have were it to be a sole diet.

It would throw off the balance of the diet unfortunately. They would wind up seriously constipated due to too much calcium, and at a high risk of bladder stones. What you COULD do is substitute making your own grind, but grinders that can handle bone can be expensive. And again, you would have to source hearts etc. I gather you don't have ethnic markets, or butcher shops anywhere near you? Any heart will do, beef, pork etc. Talk to meat managers at grocery stores. Some will order in for you, but it is in bulk so usually at least 10lbs. You can defrost and portion out into baggies and refreeze.

Here, this is a good start: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/17480/intro-raw-newbies-readThe third link on there, Basic Frankenprey Menu, will give you ideas of which meats to get. I'm gonna let Sherry weigh in on this too, but I am not too sure if the veal hearts are the best choice for hearts. Veal is in essence, "baby cow", it's meat from calves. Baby/immature animals are not fully nutritionally developed yet compared to their adult counterparts. Personally, I'm not quite sure how big a part this will play in the nutrition of those hearts, so I'll let Sherry see if she can better answer that one. As for intestines and things like tripe, not a lot of ferrets will touch those, in fact most might prefer to just avoid them entirely. Liver and Kidney are both good for your organ meals. Gizzards count as a muscle meat, ferrets don't get a whole lot of that in their weekly menu, only a few meals. Turkey necks are good for a bone-in meal, just be sure to smash the heck out of them with a mallet/hammer. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/18359/smashing-bone-beginner-ferrets

Thanks Linda- with heart veal is fine It is bone where immature animals can cause issues with lack of calcium Of the pictures you've shown, only the tripe is useless as it's been bleached. No nutritional value at all. Print out our Basic Frankenprey Menu from the first link Linda gave you and take that list to the store with you. It will give you a much better idea of what variety you can get
