Fiddler has somehow gotten his little left fang slightly chipped. I noticed it today, and you can hardly tell that it's shorter. The biggest giveaway is that it is flat rather than rounded like his other tooth. I have no idea how he chipped it-he doesn't bite his cage, unless he's in his carrier and he hasn't been in one for months. What are health concerns associated with a chipped tooth. I have a chipped tooth and I got an abscess once even though I had/have good dental hygiene. Is this something I should be worried about with him? I didn't even notice mine was a real issue or why my chin hurt so much until it got horribly painful, and massive-anyway, is that something I should keep in mind or does that not happen to ferrets as much?

Maybe he fell or ran into something maybe? If its very small and doesn't seem to be bothering him, I wouldn't be too concerned. Just keep and eye on it, watch for signs of pain. It most likely won't cause him any discomfort if it's just the tip

Yeah, it's just the very tip. I'll definitely keep an eye on him.

It should be fine. A number of ferrets chip their canines on a variety of things. As long as it's not run into the pulp of the tooth, it doesn't seem to be a concern for the majority. Again, just keep an eye on it.

I've dealt with more than my share of broken teeth of varying severity. For the most part you don't have to worry. I've seen them broken half way and not cause any problems. Like the others said, just keep an eye on it. Older fuzzes often have varying degrees of broken teeth, so not to worry over much ciao

*whew* thank goodness it's not a big deal. It still protrudes from his mouth when closed like his other tooth but it is slightly shorter and flattened, so it's not a large chip and he certainly can still eat, the piggy.
