I am adopting 2 rescues who were fed raw. Not much is known other than they got chicken breast, they were given food as is, and they apparently like rabbit.
So, I have some rabbit (whole), I will pick up some quail on my way to get them and stick it in a cooler (full of ice), I have beef liver, heart, some beef pieces, chicken neck, gizzards, chicken liver, I am making a turkey on Thursday and will have the organs and neck from that, and I think I picked up some chicken wings. I have chicken thighs and other stuff in the freezer too. I figured I would make it for dinner, but keep out some raw for the ferrets.
Should I pick up some beef tongue too? I am also placing an order from Hare Today (Thank you member who mentioned them!) at the end of the week for some other options for ground up different meats. a nice variety.
Now, would mice or rats be better for them to eat? I can go get some of those too.
We are all a little bit at a loss. The previous owner did not give much info. They came in a really disgusting cage and clearly living conditions were not the best. The rescue has just gotten to the point where they are eating enough not to be force fed. I will get more on how they are doing and what she was able to get them to eat when I pick them up.
I have 2 ferrets currently (one is under a year and one is 6 years old) who are on kibble and no raw (yet). I thought I might use this opportunity to get them to switch. I know that won't be easy. I will follow the guide though that is on the forum though. Thank you so much to the makers of that!!!!
Anyone have any tips with this? Getting raw eaters that have turned their noses up at some meat already but you don't know a lot about their previous raw diet? That is the main thing I need tips on.
