Whenever safe oils are mentioned its only ever salmon fish oil that's quoted, is that because its the only one safe to use or are other fish oils an option for example Cod liver oil?
Also with regards to the Blockage Protocol if pumpkin is a cause for concern (well so is Vaseline but in small amounts, needs must) is there an alternative to use instead of pumpkin, as in the UK I'm also not sure of how available what I'd need would be to get? I realise amongst the benefits to using it is clearly orange poop.

Do not use Cod liver oil, it's too high in Vitamin A and that can cause a toxicity in your ferret as it is fat soluble, so it stays in their system for much longer. You can use other fish oils such as Krill too. I'll tag Sherry since I think she uses a bigger variety of oils and could tell you which are fine. Pumpkin is used because of it's fiber content, not color actually. While it shouldn't be used all the time, or given to ferrets as food, it definitely serves purpose in the blockage protocol. The fiber in it helps push things through their system, and the Vaseline helps to lubricate that process. Not sure what you can replace with, one of the admins might know.

Just remember that pumpkin is not a casual additive to a diet. It should only be used in the case of a possible blockage, otherwise if you're concerned during a shed a raw egg will help dissolve the hair ciao
