I just purchased the book "ferrets for Dummies" and omg I recommend every ferrant to read this. Very helpful and direct information. Even on raw diet and transitions.

I have this as well. Read cover to cover immediately! The only disappointment I had/have is that the writer indicates that it is okay to feed fruit every now and again I have learned this is NOT accurate or good information, especially for people who are new to ferrets and using the book as their "bible". Other than that I found it informative and a bit entertaining.

I think it's fixed in the 2nd edition.

2nd edition, p 140, says small amounts of soft, non acidic fruits like melon, banana and papaya are ok, a couple times a week. on p 141, she says that dried fruits are high in sugar and on the banned list. Poppy would eat anything, and got 1/4" chunks of cuke or regular potato a couple times a week. She also liked green pepper and loved melon. She once tried to steal a whole cantaloupe. If your ferrets have never had fruits or veggies, there's no point introducing them where there are better choices. melon mooching tater taster

They must love taters. I thought I had rats until I found my very first girl on wire, pantry shelf in the potatoes. Bottom shelf got removed. Yeah I would not give fruits or vegs.

Blue, I have the second edition. Promoting fruit is there. Part III: Basic Ferret Care and Feeding, Chapter 8: Filling Your Ferret's Belly, Page 141 ~ Tip - "Nonacidic, soft fruits: Melon, banana, berries, and papaya are good ones. Okay, so this isn't at the top of the list, but I had to sneak one in for the sweet-tooths in the bunch. Give no more than one to two tiny pieces (1/2 teaspoon) of these fruits a couple times a week. Most fruits are high-sugars, so watch the insulinoma patients!" I feel like I also saw something on blueberries during my read, but cannot find it right now in my quick scan.

Yes, I was very confused when I saw the bit about fruits and veggies. I've always heard and read that it was not okay.
It's definitely the second edition because I haven't read the first edition. 🤗
I bought the book and literally read it front to back in 2 days

they'll eat spuds. My first fuzzy, Bella, once swiped 6 idahoes out of a pot of water in less than 2 minutes.

I typed all that word for word and then I picked up a virus and had to shut down the puter. Poppy got a lot of fruit and veggie treats and made it to 6 and died lof an infected broken tooth. of all things.

I have the 2nd edition also, have been using it amongst other resources to prepare for my first owned fuzzies. My grandad always had at least one ferret since I was old enough to notice but he was from the old school of Ferreter's so needed to update my knowledge base
