Hello everyone,
Regardless of political opinions, I think most people will agree that these are uncertain times. This has got me thinking about what would happen in a disaster scenario. Feeding raw may be better for our fuzzies day to day, but I don't know what I would do without access to refrigeration. I would like to hear if anyone has a plan for feeding their ferrets in an emergency situation.
Thank you!

Depends how big and what kind of disaster I guess. My ferrets are raw fed, but they also get rehydrated FDR regularly. So without refrigeration, I'd simply give them rehydrated FDR, it's exactly why we keep a good amount of Stella & Chewys in the house as backup. All I need is water.

If something catastrophic happened, I would begin raising mice and rats. Also, I know mine love squirrel but not too fond of deer meat though. I am definitely a farm girl at heart. Hubby has hunted rabbits back in the day---so I think all would be well on my end.

I'm also interested in hearing some more opinions on this matter. Similarly, what do you guys do if for example: You get into a car accident and can't make it home? How long can they safely go without food in this case? What kind of things do you all have in place in case of a situation like this?

When I travel I feed raw, any grocery store carries chicken legs, water comes in bottles. When the power was out for a week, we continued to feed raw, I just had to be more careful about opening the freezer. Freezers are amazing at keeping things frozen for weeks if full. Raw fed ferrets can go more than 24 hrs without food, longer if you hyper fed them (feeding more than they can eat at one time). My guys get fed once a day. Sick ferrets are going to present problems but I've got people whom can fill in, in a pinch who know how to feed the guys if necessary ciao
