The FDR grind I feed is rather expensive, and I was wondering if anyone has a home made balanced raw grind recipe I could use. Cookie likes poultry (especially turkey) but I haven't had any luck with red meat, so I hope that's not a problem. He refuses to eat any meat in chunks, or off the bone, but he loves ground meat. I brush his teeth weekly because of the fact that he won't chew on bones. I was also wondering if there's any substitutes for bones (like egg shells or something) because I don't think my food processor would be able to grind them fine enough.

I actually buy a commercially packaged raw grind called Raw Performance Dog Food. It's marketed for dogs, but the portions are balanced to feed ferrets and cats (I asked the owner for them). Another good one you could try is Congo. They come in patties, and they're basically the same price. Extremely affordable compared to what I was paying for when I made my own blend. As for the teeth brushing, I would actually brush more often than once a week if your ferret(s) are on minced. About 2-4 times a week would be ideal. I may be wrong as I haven't done this myself, I believe eggshell is a good alternative if your ferrets don't eat bones, especially if you're in the soup stage.

Eggshell powder, or even human grade bonemeal is only meant for short term. Ideally you want to get a grinder that can handle bones from smaller animals.
