...this is what you come up with! I have to say.. I'm proud, I'm real proud. Athena (or shall we call her Mrs. Toy Hoarder from now on?), seems to have been blessed with pretty adequate skill when it comes to stacking things in a way that items amounting to 2-3 times the size of the space in question, still ends up fitting in there, and fit in there with them. This was the stash hoard under my husband's bedside table measuring 14in by 22in, and the opening under there isn't very tall. But Athena managed to hide: 1x Loki's Belt which was originally stolen from daddy 1x unicorn fluffy softie 2x mice softies 1x mice fluffy softie 4x snowball fluffies 4x ball softies 2x small ball fluffies 1x small bird softie 1x chirping bird softie 1x bone softie 1x stocking fluffy softie 1x shiny fishy 2x dog softies 2x candycane softies 1x penguin crinkle 1x snowman softie 1x light-up racoon softie 1x green fat-some-kinda-animal softie 2x pairs of daddy's pajama boxers 1x chunk of leftover destroyed Christmas gift wrapping paper There was also a fat turkey softie, two empty 500ml water bottles and a plastic jingle ball in there, which had sadly, already been relocated before I could grab my phone and take the photo. As you can see, two ferrets eagerly at work trying to find out why the sanctity of a stash had been violated and plotting which items to relocate into a another hidey hole first.

Snowball's stash is usually water bottles. Twiggy though is the master toy hoarder and the thief of car keys. That is one big stash though. Sometimes we get a big one when under the bed becomes the communal hiding spot.

storm That's just the bedside table stash. They have a stash under the dressing table, and under both dressers too. Athena doesn't really stash toys under my bedside table anymore, I think there's maybe 2 jingle balls in there.. but she's using it as a feeding den now.. sigh. Under the dressers there are probably a stashes of several toys (balls, stuffies and crinkles), crinkle bags and empty/various levels of liquid water bottles, the ferrets can't seem to have less than 8-10 bottles at any given time.. if they have that amount, they do not add to it, take some away from that amount and they'll begin waste basket diving or steal bottles sitting on the bedside tables to replenish the stash amount.

storm Yep.. they're quite greedy too. My poor cat has no toys of his own anymore.. he gets to play with a toy only when they allow him to. Athena will literally drop him a ball now and then. And should he have a toy and somehow tick one of them off.. they take it from him and stash it. The cat believes he rules the roost.. but the ferrets rule him with an iron paw.

LindaM We don't have any other pets but I think that Nibbles tried to tell me that she was the boss a few times. (giggle) Twiggy is our worse thief though Snowball is bad about taking bottles. She usually wont even mess with toys much but she loves bottles.

storm I think Athena is the boss... and the most industrious of them all. Kinda that "Well, if you want it done right, do it yourself! Watch me do it and learn, minions!" deal. While Loki still tries to discipline Athena at times, and while we're not quite sure if Athena has definitely taken her place as the alpha between them... she most certainly is alpha to the cat. She ends up disciplining him by biting his back toes. But they play together so nice. I've watched them play hide and seek together before, so adorable. And no one has ever hurt the other.

LindaM I think that my Nibbles is dominant but it's hard to tell sometimes. She can almost always beat Little Bear in a play fight. Twiggy can still throw down despite being so skinny and Snowball doesn't ever get bullied but she's so laid back that I never see her throwing her weight around.

That is hilarious! Mine have not started to stash things yet. I am sure it will be amusing when they do.

@rosethejinx Oh, believe me they will... even Loki who doesn't stash much, has things that are "MUST STASH"ables. It's totally adorable though. I get a kick out of it every time they drag off a toy twice or three times their size.

LindaM It should be good in my house! The "ferrets run free" area is the "play room" above my garage. Fully finished, complete with bathroom. I pick it up before they run free, but the kids are up there, so always something out. lol Lots of fun things to pick up and stash!

@rosethejinx Haha, I can just imagine! The toys I have for the ferrets are generally safe without supervision, and I just check everything over each morning to see if anything is damaged and needs to be removed. I don't allow any rubber toys or toys with small bits in my house because of how dangerous it is.
So... right now, I have no clue how things are gonna play out when my husband and I start having kids... I know for a fact the poor children will never have their own soft toys... Athena will just rob them of them. I have a fluffy husky soft toy my husband bought me at the zoo on my birthday last year, and that ALWAYS has to be put up every morning when the ferrets are allowed out of their cage to free-roam (its eyes are actually foggy-looking due to how badly they clawed and bit at them). At that time, we may need to just give the ferrets a bedroom of their own versus letting them have the run of the house like they do now.

LindaM Oh, the small stuff stays downstairs in rooms. Far away from ferrets who could choke on it. As far as stuffed animals, they are over rated. Ha! When you have kids, people give you so many. I donate them all the time.
