So we seem to have been having an issue converting to full raw because of three FDR. I have been trying to get my fuzzies to switch for some time now and found out today that the only thing stopping us from a full switch was the freeze dried. Well I threw it all in the trash tonight (yes I was throwing a fit, got mad and threw it away). I felt like I was taking 1 step forward and 3 steps back with everything that I tried finally tonight I had enough. I made the raw soup that was suggested and added something I knew my fuzzies would eat. Here is the recipe I used tonight. Tomorrow's will be quite similar.
2 chicken hearts 1 chicken liver 1 chicken gizzard 8 Oz raw chicken thigh meat with skin 2 whole eggs 4 egg shells
I blended it all up and added some warm water to thin it out a little bit.
Tomorrow night instead of raw eggs (they only get 2 eggs a week) I'm going to use salmon oil since they have a taste for it now.

How surprising. To most of us FDR was one of the easier steps in a transition to raw. I still give my babies FDR for treats, or rehydrated as food, but it's never gotten in their way of accepting any normal raw, they eat it all the same.
I'm amazed you got gizzard to blend... that stuff usually ruins blenders and fires up to stick on the ceiling, lol. My Blendtec could probably blend it.. but I'm not willing to take that risk, and the unit I use for my ferrets will most certainly die once off trying to blend that.
I'm glad they're accepting the soup. Next time you might want to use less eggs so you don't max out in one go (you could even just drizzle a bit of egg on top of the soup and then store the rest in a container in the fridge for the next meal). Remember, even the salmon oil has a limit; 1 teaspoon per ferret, per week.

I don't have a typical blender. I'm using the bullet and it worked fantastically to blend the gizzard down though I did cut it up too prior to putting it in. I just checked and most of their raw is gone. Which makes me super happy though I know they aren't happy with me lol. They are digging in the litter box... which they never do unless they are mad lol. (dance)

when it comes to FDR it was like an addiction for them. I found just tossing it and giving him the soup mixture worked much better. Though I had to take it outside because they were cage raging really bad trying to get to it. I'm just glad they are accepting it now.

Poor babies, yes it was likely a good choice in this case. It sounds like your babies were just holding out for the FDR when they got the raw offered to them. My cat was like that when I started to switch him over onto the high quality kibble.. he wanted the horrible, grocery store crack instead and would hold out on me until I started to get scared he'll starve himself to death in his idiocy.
I'm really glad that the soupies are working out for you. Hopefully they'll stop giving you troubles as they come to realize mommy isn't trying to feed them poison but yummy food instead, lol.

That often happens during a switch. They will hold out for the FDR. I do keep some on hand for various reasons, but during transition best not to use it if possible.

I was able to kick the FDR completely and have decided to no longer keep it on hand. I have carnivore care, meat baby foods etc on hand in case of illness so I don't need it anymore.

I have been lucky, the last 3 rescues, came in to us and went straight to soup. We maintained our No Kibble in this house mantra.
Babies are easy, they go straight for Game hen wings.
I Have a 2nd jar for my blendtec for the ferrets. It can puree Whole chicken legs, wings backbone, into smooth soup. No need for egg shell or bone meal. I have actually dropped in a whole game hen into the blender and it tore through it like it was nothing. Pulverizes Gizzards as well. Although it is not an ingredient that I normally put in soup, as all of mine love chewing on whole gizzards.
I would not worry about ruining the blendtec it comes with a 7 year no questions asked warranty.

Thanks msav. I'll actually try that I think, as it sounds like you have had good success. Blendtec's HQ is actually here in the same town we live in, so I might pop in and get another carafe to use for the ferrets alone.

When I put a soupie with my slivers, my girl licked all the soupie and left the slivers---could not believe how picky, so i just daubed the slivers with a little soupie from my finger. I just kept doing this as she licked up soupie.
My girl was very soupie hooked.

I am adding much less water to the mixture and they are actually showing interest in eating it still.

If you can get the slivers to be accidentally eaten that is a good first step, Mine would always eat around them, but sometimes when they were really hungry slivers got eaten in the rush to eat the soup. Keep trying they will eventually eat them and realize they don't have to be avoided.
