My boy is almost 4 months old. Does anyone know the average weight for a 4 month old boy? He is a Marshalls ferret.
He has gained quite a bit since I started feeding only raw... I'm just wondering if it's as good as I hope it is!

Ferret sizes, shapes and weights vary quite a bit. Judging based on their shape (ie. dangling while you hold them by their scruff) is pretty common. Gaining weight at the beginning of a raw transition is typical. My smallest sprite gained a lot of weight and was a bit round for a while, but she dropped it and got skinny again after they were no longer on raw soup.

At 5 months, Yoshi had a jelly belly and was close to 4 lbs. He's now 4 years and a healthy 3 lb. His baby fat was cute, but it was almost starting to get scary. Mogli is the same age and he's always been a skinny one. Baby Yoshi Yoshi 5 months Adult Yoshi

Yoshi is so cute!!! My little man is gaining weight like crazy! I have to weigh him tomorrow because he seems so much heavier than when I got him, but then again I could feel his ribs way too much then too. I like to call him my fat bottomed boy now lol ^.^

Baby ferrets weigh their heaviest their first winter. They also loose the most weight their first spring. The weight that they are at the end of Aug/Sept is often the average weight they will weigh for the rest of their lives. Their winter weight of that first winter is also added to the heavy weight that kits put on so they would be protected that first winter where they're learning to hunt and subsist. ciao

Thanks Heather, that's really great information to know. Hard to believe it when today is 46C (115F), but we'all be heading into my girls' first winter soon. It's good to know what to expect.
