My ferret's name is cookie, and ever since I got him he has never cared if I make him wear things. I remember when I first put his harness on I was expecting retaliation (as most ferrets do) but it didn't seem like he could even tell the difference. So this week I bought him a collar. It's a break away cat collar with a bell. The length range starts at 6 inches in case anyone's wondering what size to buy. He's a pretty average sized male, about 3 1/2 pounds, so I'm not sure if this would work for females. You might have to use a small kitten collar. Anyway, I tightened it up just enough so that it stays on, but he can slip it off if he needs to. I also bought him a tiny cat Id tag so if he gets lost someone can return him to me. He only wears it when there's someone here to watch him, but it hasn't gotten caught on anything so far. He also hasn't taken it off yet, but I'm not sure if you can expect the same results with every ferret. I would recommend this if you worry about loosing your ferret. It worked out well for me and looks super cute.

I gave up after losing 8 in 3 months lol. They can always slip a collar as their neck and head have very little size difference.

Haha Yeah. I guess I got lucky that my boy doesn't even try to slip it off.

I had no luck with collars. Best I got was putting a hair elastic around their neck for looks and it's never come off LOL

I got all all mine into harnesses once and they didn't mind at all but there so tapered, fat butts and skinny shoulders, that they wouldn't stay on for long. Haha. Little buggers. On two separate occasions now though, I've gone into the ferret room and somehow my youngest has been found with a hair elastic around his neck. HOW that even happens is beyond me. It was loose around his neck but how did he get over his head?? so weird. I mean... Who held it for him to get in it. Ferrets. Lily when my mom's cat had kittens they used hair elastics as colour coded collars to tell them apart! So cute. They were all grey kittens.

My boys would regularly wear both harnesses and collars and never minded either at all. One was deaf so he had a bell so that we could find him, haha. Every now and then when they were wrestling someone would lose their collar and I'd have to find it. It became a bit of a game for one so whenever he lost it he would find it and bring it to me, or put it in the collar bin. Harnesses were never an issue, they didn't struggle and the harnesses never came off.
They both would wear the collars whenever they were out, they needed to so that they were relatively easy to find when it was time to put them away. The big guy wore a kitten collar and the little one wore the marshall's collar. I never really worried about them getting stuck since they could slip out as needed.

We've had no luck with collars either. Probably because we're afraid to tighten them enough so they can't shed them. But whenever we go out for walks they have a harness with a bell. If we took them out often we'd get them chipped. When I got Icy and Sumo, they had worn harnesses their whole first year. It took Sumo a couple-three weeks till you couldn't see the lines in his fur.

Keep in mind that collars can be potentially dangerous. Ferrets are naturally inclined to crawl / climb into tight spaces and a collar can get hung-up on things.

We used to use collars until we learned the possible dangers of them and we realized how much he hated his collar, lol. I don't even like short necklaces myself because they feel constricting, let alone wearing a choker 24/7 (but maybe that's just me). But we do use a harness to go outside for walks.

I gave up because putting them on in the morning and taking them off at night was a pain. I was too nervous to let them sleep in them because there was no guarantee I'd wake up if something happened. I used them for litter training when the boys were little. I'd stop hearing a jingle and catch a floof trying to poop somewhere they shouldn't. We also made sure collars were off when we couldn't be home. But, now they are all nekked.
