Took our ferrets for pedicure today, and was talking to a cat owner. We happened to be talking about cancer in ferrets, when she told me her cat got cancer at site of a rabies vaccination. This was the 3 year vaccine, which she says she will not do anymore and has opted for the yearly. Do not know if it is stronger or what ---I have not done any research on it. For cat owners who have to vaccinate for rabies---you might want to investigate.

Vaccine site sarcomas are unfortunately nothing new. Dogs get them as well. Not sure about ferrets. But yes cats seem particularly prone.

Opting for an annual is even worse. The vaccine for the 3 yr and the 1 yr is exactly the same vaccine. The company hasn't made 1 yr vaccines in years....all the vets do is use the exact same vaccine for both, there is no real option except timing. Your friends observation of a cancer at the vaccine site isn't uncommon. It's why vets for a time were vaccinating in the hind leg instead of the scruff...you can amputate a leg, you can't amputate their heads. Vaccines are not without risks. Opting for one vaccine in the pet's lifetime (which is all they need) is the better option. Opting for an annual vaccine is not doing your homework ciao
