So, several times this winter I caught Paulie snacking on secret dried stashes of meat from where he his the chunks I'd leave sometimes in his soupies. This week, he has been begging for food more than usual. Since we are trying to lose weight I didn't want to give more soupies, so I figured, what the heck, we'll try Ziwipeak again. He stashed from the bag and bowl when I left it out in the apartment (of course), but he definitely saw it as food. Last round he wouldn't stash it. So I put it in his cage. Every morning, if I didn't get up soon enough, he would climb into the cage and snatch a piece of food and run off with it. Well today, I left some in his cage while I went to work two hours, and the food has clearly been snacked on. What do you know, Paulie is considering chewing again? *crosses fingers* I'd like to get him eating some freeze dried in the event of emergencies, so this is a good start. Maybe we can try a few RMBs sometime later this summer I think he'd enjoy some bones to chew on.

That's fantastic!!! And if you can get him on the freeze dried rehydrated, you can start slipping in the teensiest morsels of meat for him ;D

Haha, it has taken Paulie 2 years to chew again and all because he decided making jerky was delicious! I will try again today when I go to work and see if the trend continues. He still loves those soupies though--he runs when he hears the microwave at night and wakes me up in the morning for them. In between, he's discovering whole new tricks (how to climb shelves in the linen closet--bolted before I could get a picture, wise-butt.).

Yay, Paulie is definitely snacking on this in the cage when I am gone--just a few bites here and there, but at least now I know he can have a snack in case he needs to munch. Maybe I can finally get some foraging toys for him since he'll eat some freeze dried!!

The foraging toys are a great idea! It might even get him eating it even more willingly that he is now
