When I first got Dexter, my sister bought me one of these: I've never used it because of obvious reasons, but I'd hate to throw it out.. she paid $30 for it and kind gestures from her are few and far between, lol. I feel like it could be a good toy if reused in another fashion. For awhile I had it taped to the box it came in, and had blankies inside and they would sleep in it.. but someone decided to poop in it so I had to dismantle everything to wash it. Since then it's been sitting on a shelf in the closet. Any suggestions on what I could do with it?

Give it to someone with a guinea pig or a hamster ;D ? Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is to take it apart and use it for a bed again? I have no idea how they open, whether it's in half, or a single opening?

I would take it apart and put a couple of blankies in either half and let them use it as a bed ciao

Can you return it? Maybe buy something more ferret appropriate?
If not, I like the bed idea (if they use it). Mine always find their own sleep spots rather than the ones I pick out.

I'd try the bed idea, Also if there are holes big enough for treats to fall out of I'd do that and let them push it around to get the treats out, it'd make a nice enrichment toy.

Put some rattly things inside so it makes a noise when they roll it around

The thing is pretty big, all 3 of my ferrets can fit inside it comfortably. It's 13" in diameter. I was almost tempted to put ribbons or something through the slats in the side and hang it from the inside of my FN as an extra bed but I'm not sure if it + the ferrets would be too heavy.

I doubt if it would be too heavy, as long as you use a strong enough attachment This is a 10 or 12 inch flower pot: I frequently found all four in it ;D

Put some rattly things inside so it makes a noise when they roll it around I'd suggest this as well -- it's been a big hit with my ferrets (mostly the ones that can hear! ) You could even put some larger things that are challenging to pull out and leave it open, let them try to get stuff out. Sherry - I LOVE the idea of the plant hanger!! I never thought of that! I'm going to do that when I go home tonight. I got a really small hammock and nobody fits in it. But I've got some spare planters. Thanks for the idea!

You can use it as a hanging hammock. -or- If you have ferret that likes to play in water dish. Use half that toy and secure it to the cage. Then put the water dish inside the toy.

Take the ends off and see if your kids like climbing in it. I have one left over from a guinea pig my daughter had. My ferts love to climb in it and roll around. Once they get it sitting up on end they have to work at climbing back out

My boys play with the hamster ball. I'd let them use it as a toy to push around. Before Hamlet (my hamster) died I'd let Koda play with him in the ball. Hamlet was totally unphased by it he just kept rolling around investigating things, and Koda liked to follow him around and smell him and occasionally push the ball with his nose. They were buddies. lol I don't know how another hamster would react though. Koda was never super crazy with pushing it too much or anything, and Hamlet was a very mellow little guy.
