Hello! I am new to HFF and I have been researching A LOT on raw feeding. And I just wanted opinions on a whole prey diet vs. a Frankenprey raw diet. Is one diet prefered and more beneficial than the other? Which one would be an easier transition for my babies? What are your guys experiences? Thanks! -M

Whole prey is the ultimate diet. The only issue would be cost and availability of sources. You need at least 3 species/proteins for a wholeprey diet. Can be sourced through breeders, or you can breed yourself however keep in mind that it can be costly still. You do save money through breeding, but you still need to spend money to keep it going. Wholeprey is fantastic mental stimulation, ferrets need to work at it just a bit more than what they may usually do for frankenprey, at least from what I've seen from my Business. Frankenprey is more cost-effective and basically mimmicks the wholeprey diet model by feeding bone in meat, organ and muscle meat. It can be easier to source to some degree depending on where you live, many supermarkets should carry what is needed in order to successfully feed the frankenprey diet. Some people may need multiple sources as some sources may not carry what they're looking for, or simply for more variety. Both are equally good and equally amazing. It comes down to you, your budget, your sources, your location, among other things. I feed wholeprey and frankenprey. I bred and will be breeding wholeprey again soon. From my experience I like the benefit of both. Frankenprey is simple and easy to source, to some degree. I had issues at the start, but now buy my supplies in bulk for both meats, and wholeprey. I have found what works best for me, and my budget, and I have also created my own meal plan according to my budget and supplies. I feed, rats, mice, quail, and rabbit now for meals and ducklings, chicks, young quail for treat items. Wholeprey may be expensive in the long run, unless you know people who can get you a good deal for bulk prey items or you breed, or if money isn't an issue for you. It is the most ideal diet. If you cannot keep up with the costs of maintaining a longterm diet of wholeprey for your ferrets, I recommend doing a mixed diet of both Frankenprey and WHoleprey. Thanks for the info! Right now we are researching places in our area that sell the meats for either a whole prey or Frankenprey diet. We found a couple places that sell whole quail, rabbit, mice, etc. Just working on getting my 15 posts in so I can get a mentor and get started! I think we are going to go with a whole prey diet - it seems more natural to me and just makes more sense.
