My sweet boy Humphrie is ill. He changed all of a sudden over the course of a day. His poo is a clear/yellow with a smell to it. He seems really lethargic. Took him into the vet yesterday. His fur is turning yellow which points to a liver problem alongside highly elevated liver values. All other values were normal. He is peeing normally. Vet noted lots of white and red blood cells in his poo. Gave him a long acting antibiotic, anti nasuea, and some other liver/bile medication. I have been trying to syringe feed him with a/d diet pureed. He hasnt been willing to eat much. But have been trying every few hours. He seems to drink a little bit on his own.
Update, today took him in again. He is a bit more yellow..he did get up and move around (up the entire staircase) on his own. We gave him some pain medication to help him relax. Vet suggested a possible ultrasound to see what might be going on, but offered a poor prognosis. His temperature is low a 96 degrees:(
Any advice, thoughts?

I can't give any advice as i have never experienced that, but ultrasound sounds good to me. I am so sorry. Hope he gets to feeling better --my prayers for your little one.

As his stools are off and you're having to force feed him, is there possibly a blockage? This is always a thought when a supposed healthy ferret crashes. Yellow fur or yellow skin tone? Yellow fur at this time of year is normal but the rest of the issues are emergency. I wouldn't hold off for a couple of days unless you see a marked improvement. Goo luck, please keep us posted ciao

I was thinking it could be a blockage..the vet didn't think so. He was dry heaving pretty good just before he took a turn for the worse. His skin is also yellow:(

Update..been feeding him a little bit of duck soup throughout the night..been trying every 3 hours to get him to eat. He is getting a little bit in, but doesn't open up his mouth for me via syringe. On the good side, he moved around and walked to some of the other rooms in the house last night. He is a little less yellow than yesterday. He is still very weak though

Are the stools still really bad? Are you giving sub q fluids? The heaving, the liquid stools, the swift change for the worst would have me doing a barium. I wish vets were faster with this. I would sooner get a negative result than to play a game of is it this, is it that and force feedings when if it is a blockage I'm slowly killing my ferrets. I know it's time consuming for them but for the ferret it can mean it's life. If you're still having to force feed and he's still got clenched teeth, I'd be taking him back in. Good luck ciao
