My Pippin is a climber. I was wondering if a cat scratch tree thing would be a good toy for him? That or any suggestions would be appreciated.

No....you don't want to encourage climbing, you want to encourage alternative safe play. Climbing even low levels is dangerous. You can get a low level cat condo (2 ft) but nothing higher. ciao

There's always a danger of a broken spine or slipped disc if they get too high and fall. I would definitely follow Heather 's suggestion!

You could make your own climb toy, like the ones at the McDonald's for kids but smaller scale. I order online lots so i have a crap ton of cardboard boxes. I cut holes in the bottom and glue them together so they can climb up through each level of the boxes.

I make sure the only way back down is to actually climb back down or take a marshals thruway
