Hi avery one !!
Lately my ferret Lily has been grinding her teeth and its not a good sign that she dose!! What gets to me is that she only grinds her teeth wen she finishes taking a bite of her food (witch is kibbles), now ive been told herre to change the kind and brand of the kibble cause there was peas as a ingredent and no fruits no vegy for them !! Witch we did!! Problum is that we had to ceep feeding her this because, like mention on my other post, ive lost my other ferret Papu, witch the biopsy turn out to tell us that it was a liver failior... witch killed her :s!! So for safety procotion we brought lily to the vet to see if she is ok!! And acording to my vet the only B- was her heart makes a humming sound and aparently its a case of having a weak heart witch could do apsolutely nothing if she give no sign of quick exaustions (witch she dosent)!
Now to get on the topic, lily had to stay on her current food to make sure that what ever killed Papu wasent the food !! Plus, we got to give lily medication cause she was doing alot of Seedy Poo's and the grinding teeth!! So we are almost a week out of 2 untill the end of her meds. Hand she is still grinding her teeth sometimes wen she finishes a bite of her food!! We never heard her grinds her teeth other then after having a *gulp* of food !!
Im switching the food to Orijins witch acording to all youre help turn out to be the best kibble for are ferrets!!
So can some give us help acording to the teeth grinding ?! And what would be the best procegure to change kibble without herting her tommy thats having some trouble ... and for how long ?
Thank you from Me and my Gf

This sounds like an ulcer, possibly. What does your vet tell you? and what are they doing about it? What tests are being run? and what meds is she presently on. Switching kibbles usually involves gradually adding the new kibbles to the old until all you're feeding is the kibbles. I don't know of any other procedure than this, maybe others can offer insight. The biggest issue though is to find out what is wrong with your little girl. Perhaps a more knowledgeable vet might be something you may need to look into ciao

Teeth grinding can be from pain or nausea. How experienced is your vet with ferrets? She should be seen and a CBC(complete blood panel) as well as a BG done. Heart issues cannot be heard, but need to be checked in xray and/or ultrasound. Is it possible she has teeth issues?

Sorry my Gf jus corrected me there not meds but antibiotic im so sorry, im originaly french and my Gf is english so im some time confuse x)
Well shes at 2 antibio now!! Metronidazole for avery 12h and sucralfate avery 8h for tow weeks (first week just past by) and for a short time amoxicillin (but it just lasted hafe week) the vet know well furrets and specialise in exautic animal herre in Canada, Qc, the only "treatement" she had was just a cheque up! She felt the stomac, looked her eyes, listend the heart and the skin!!
She told uss that she was good but the heart murrmurr like ive explane !
So she proscribe us all in the above for 2 weeks and that was just a percotion mesur for her stomac !! She told us that if the grinding continue there will be a blood test!! But its costy:$!! We are ready to pay for it but will wait to see were the antibiotic will help or not !!
And wanted to share whit all of you to see if some one didnt had some thin simular!!
Though lily lately got alot of energie and like ive mention never grinds her teeth BUT wen she eats and then swalows! We monitor her unstop wen we are back or My Gf momys is always in a lool out too ! And is it posible that wen they eat kibbles they surda squint whit therre eye a bit ?!

Oh good, so it does seem she is being treated for an ulcer. It can sometimes take a couple of bouts of antibiotics to completely fix it

Its been a week now whit the anbiotic and her stool is all looking as great as ever, her belly is normal (not inflated like if she was blocl) She plays normal, dosent show sign of nothing no pain wen play, avery thing is normal but wen she finishes to eat a bite of her kibbles... she grinds and shows pain!! Only wen she swalows!! !! We are getting more certain that it could be because of her baby teeth?! She is just 3 month old.. could it ?! Could the kubbles be crush so its easer for her?! Or what we do for my dog we put water in the kibbles so its easer to shew ?! If id do i cant leave the food there at all time and will need to feed her specific time during the day?! Would it be possible and how wold it work?!

It is possible the kibble is irritating her gums I would imagine. I haven't fed it in so many years I am not sure at what age you can quit softening it for them.

I would try it soaked it could be the hard kibble is irritating her mouth and throat when she swallows ( think of a human trying to swallow down cinders !) try her with a little kibble soaked in hot water then when it cools down to just warm try her with it ( you will see how much water it absorbs which is why they drink so much then poop there empty then they eat and so on and so on ! ) try 1 tablespoon of kibble with 3 tablespoons of hot water leave for 15-20 mins and serve it just warm if it is too mushy add less water good luck take care bye for now Bev
